Name's Mrs. Pages South Miami's Busy Library Has Manager From Cuba
HERE'S THE NEW LIBRARIAN at South Miami Public Library, Mrs. Jo Pages, absorbed in reading a story to Suzie, two, center, and Cathy, seven, the children of Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Hull, 9520 SW 104th St. Pages is her name and she's the new librarian in South Miami. Mrs. Jo Pages, a Cuban refugee, has found a home here doing the work she used to do in Mantanzas, Cuba, before the Communist take over. Her attorney husband has not been so lucky. There's not much work in Fidel-land these days for lawyers and he has had to turn to driving a car for a local advertising firm for a livelihood. They are living at 2544 SW 16th St. with their two small children awaiting developments in their native land before making elaborate plans for the future. Mrs. Pages, a graduate of Columbia University and holder of a master's in library science from Salem College, Winston-Salem, N.C., succeeds Mrs. Joan C. Durrance. Mrs. Durrance and her husband moved to Tallahassee, where she is now reference librarian. Mrs. Pages heads a staff of three. Others are Mrs. Frances Meyer, aid, and Mrs. Mary Ann Jones, clerk. Located at 1650 Southwest Sunset Dr., South Miami Library is now the third busiest in the 13 member Miami branch system, Mrs. Pages said. Two years ago, South Miami city fathers entered into a $16,600 contract with the City of Maimi to furnish a library system after first establishing the library. The old Community House was converted and serves an estimated 2,000 families in South Miami and in the County. Although the library itself has only a modest number of books, the entire facilities of the Miami library system are available, Mrs. Pages said. A member may get a book at the South Miami Library, Mrs. Pages pointed out, simply by dialing FR 7-5001, the Main Library, and requesting that book be sent to South Miami. Or, she said, it may be ordered through the South Miami branch at MO 7-5001. South Miami residents pay no charge for use of facilities, but non-residents pay a small fee—$1 a year for children and $4 for others. Next step? New furniture is coming that will make it more comfortable and practical to use the library, Mrs. Pages said.

Baptist Hospital Run Gets Additional Bus
Additional buses — a 100 per cent increase — have been placed on the Baptist Hospital route by the City of Coral Gables, according to Transportation Director Lee Davis. The increase in the number of buses from one to two was prompted by wide acceptance of the service, Davis said. Buses will now leave the terminal every hour beginning at 6:40 a.m. to 6:40 p.m. Return trips from Baptist Hospital will start at 6:50 a.m. and end at 7:20 p.m. There is no service on Sundays and holidays.
