By Helen Reynolds The South Miami Woman's Club will have an art appreciation program at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the South Miami American Legion Hall, 7710 SW 59th Ave. ELVIN PORTER will be the guest speaker. The Fine Arts Department with Mrs. Russell Blue, chairman, is in charge. Luncheon will follow. Mrs. A. G. Gresham, 5790 SW 62nd Ave., is chairman of the hostess committee, whose members are Mrs. H. Local residents who are on the dean's list for the fall quarter at Emory University's College of Arts and Sciences are Richard D. Flexner, 6521 SW 65th Ave.; Barbara J. Hille, 4490 SW 62nd Ct.; and Anne P. Ventulett, 8840 SW 64th Ct. Pennsylvania State University names two residents of South Miami to its dean's list for the Fall term. They are Harriet E. Calkins, 8800 SW 191st St., junior in psychology; and Anton S. Chaplin, 9760 SW 77th Ter., senior in meteorology. Mrs. H. P. Scott, 5870 SW 5th St., is the new corresponding secretary of the Eastern Flight Engineers' Wives Club. Installation of the 1962 officers took place Tuesday at a luncheon held at the Congress Airport Inn. Theater Arts League members will meet at the home of Shirley Fitzsimmons, 1810 SW 89th Pl., Monday at 10:30 a.m. when coffee and chatter followed by business at 11 a.m. will take place. The Demi-Arts Club has named its pink and white booth "Peppermint" and will have Pronto Pups called the "Twisters" on sale. Occasion is the annual Cutler Ridge Fair which takes place Saturday at Cutler Ridge Center. Mrs. Marvin Schoenberg, 1423 SW 19th Pl., is one of the authors of the Vaudeville Variety Show which members of the Eleanor Roosevelt Chapter, B'nai B'rith, will present Saturday at the Disabled American Veterans Hall. South Dade's Council of the National Council of Jewish Women and its newest division will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the home of Jack Schenkman, 6605 SW 109th St. Program is entitled "Buzzing Is Our Business."

Church For Day of Rest

The University Christian Church has gone on record opposing Sunday Openings. In a recent meeting of the general board, the Church voted to support the closing of business establishments and recommended to its members that they make their purchases on week days. Coral Gables has led the way on Sunday closings by passing a resolution asking Metro to pass an ordinance.

with Ron Levitt THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN: It's politicking time, again! The May primary is still a few months off, but the office-seekers are out en masse trying to garner support. Mrs. Herb (Barbara) Heiken and Steve Ross, both Southwest residents, have already gone to work in behalf of Earl Faircloth, who is expected to announce next week that he'll oppose David Eldredge for a state legislative seat . . . Circuit Judge Ralph Cullen have at least two opponents — Asst. State's Attorney Max Kogen and Metro Judge Jack Turner . . . Couple of attorneys — in addition to Vice Mayor Henry Balaban of Miami — eyeing Circuit Judge Phil Goldman's bench. And Westchester area resident, Judge Jack Falk of the Criminal Court of Record, is starting his pitch for reelection . . . Both Holmes Braddock and Arthur Phillips reported considering making the race for Mrs. Eunice Anderson's school board seat . . . and Gene Flynn, who is one of the big-guns in the efforts to turn the Southwest suburbs into an incorporated area, is said by friends to be a sure-candidate for the Metro Commission. MISCELANEOUS MEMOS: Jewish War Veterans have some tape recordings taken in Eastern Cities of speeches of the American Nazi Party — the new hate group — which they have available for local civic groups. State Commander Henry Norton says every American should hear these recordings . . . Coral Gables Optimist Club's proposed swimming courses in the elementary schools has received the backing of Mrs. Jane Holloway of the Venetian Aquatic Club and Mrs. Marjorie King of the West End Aquatic Club. Optimist prexy Sandy Marshall and Boy's Work Co-Chairmen Ainslee Ferdie and Fred Scher are working on the swim program . . . Judge Jack Falk to be guest speaker at the Everglades Elementary School PTA discussion on Juvenile Delinquency Feb. 13 . . . Tulane University swimmers to compete against Dade Junior High swimmers at Westbrooke this Spring . . . Builders Irv Adler and Seymour Weiss have named the streets in one of their new developments after their wives . . . Coral Way between 67th and 87th Avenues is becoming known as Gasoline Alley. Two more pump-stations to open this month. . . . Remeber the big trampoline center fad last year? Well, the last one in Dade County is now ready to shutter. The fad seems to have bounced out of existence . . . Temple Beth-Am and the Coral Way Jewish Center both planning musical shows for this coming month . . .
