Forrest Maurer After Seat on Metro Commission
Forrest Maurer, 31, a Coral Gables businessman and former assistant secretary of state, is a candidate in the race for County Commissioner Robert Haverfield's seat. "The constant harassment and attacks on the Metro form of government have wearied all of us and caused us to lose sight of the fact that this form of government is our very best hope of government dynamic and expanding area such as Dade County," Maruer said in announcing. "Metro should be allowed to function without forever having to fight a rear guard action for its very life and, as a result, being constantly sidetracked and hampered in properly performing the services of which it is capable," he said. Maurer has a 10-point program for "prosperity and progress": —Uniform system of zoning in the unincorporated areas.—Immediate consolidation of all our toll-road causeways under one authority.—Expansion of bus service and integration of the Coral Gables and South Miami systems.—Better police and fire protection for suburbs. —More and better roads. Promotion of commercial and industrial development. Cooperation between County and municipal tax assessors. Modern central bus terminal in Miami. —Fair share taxation. "Elimination of politics" from traffic planning. Maurer is a graduate of the University of Miami Business School. He is a member of the Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, former chairman, associate division Coral Gables Board of Realtors past president of Phi Delta Theta Alumni Club of Greater Miami. He is state coordinator, voter registration drive, received Key Man award 1959. Maurer is married, has one daughter, and lives at 5910 Cellini St. FORREST MAURER
