City Gives OK For Gableite To Divide Lot

Owner-developer Malcolm Lovell received permission last week from the Coral Gables City Commission to re-subdivide a city block. A right triangle-shaped tract is bordered by LeJeune Rd., on one side and Rosaro and Menendez on the other two sides. Lovell received an okay to reduce the square footage on three lots and got a commercial change in zoning on one. The proposal also necssitated the closing of an alley and constr...ion of a 6-foot wall to create a buffer between the residential and commercial portions of the property. Lovell reportedly purchased the reversionary rights to the 'alley five years ago. The City of Miami, which owns a piece of property known as Waterworks Park, is also rep edly contemplating a commercial type building on that tract, which faces LeJeune Rd. across from the Lovell property. Lovell's plan had hurdled the Planning Advisory Board and passed the Zoning Board 4-1. Approval by the City Commission was unanimous.

Nautec Corp. Elects Grove Man To Board

Richard H. Bertram, 3323 Moorings Way, Coconut Grove, president of the Bertram Yacht Co., has been elected to the board of directors of the Nautec Corp. of Detroit, formerly Motor Products Corp. Bertram's election and change of the corporation's name was announced following the annual stockholders' meeting in New York last week, at which Julian Weinkle, 4300 Toledo Ave., was re-elected as a director. The Bertram Yacht Company of Miami was established as a division of Nautec earlier this year. It currently is producing a series of high speed, 31-foot fiberglass boats at a temporary plant in Hialeah while rushing construction of a new 110,000 square foot plant designed to handle an annual $10,000,000 a year volume of boats to 60-foot lengths. Bertram said construction of the new plant will start this month with completion planned for next spring. Meanwhile, first models will be introduced to the public at the New York and Miami International boat shows early next year. Weinkle, in addition to serving as a Nautec director, is executive vice president of the boat-building division.

Gables Building Picture Brighter In October

Despite the lack of a start on any large projects in October, Coral Gables construction continues ahead of 1959 for the 10-month period ending Oct. 31. And the gap appears to be increasing. The total for this year stands at $11,543,835. This is a bit more than the $11,289,143 recorded over the same period last year. October's 301 permits totalled $906,873, which was considerably more than October 1959's $777,997. Thirteen new homes started in October accounted for more than one-third of the total, or $343,034. The balance of construction was made up of 16 additions, $110,426; three alterations, $9700; 15 swimming pools, $61,512; four duplexes, $88,080; 249 miscellaneous, $293,321, and one foundation, $800. Largest single permit went to the 55 Investment Co., $60,000, for a residence and pool at 360 Arvida Parkway. Babcock Co. is the builder and Carl Blohm the architect. Twelve apartment units at the University Court Motel, 1390 South Dixie Hwy., accounted for $55,550.
