City Presents Liquor Case To High Court
A decision on the controversial Barcelona Gardens liquor case may come in a week or it may be four or five months, City Attorney Ted Semple said Tuesday. Semple returned recently from Tallahassee, where he argued the city's case before the Florida Supreme Court. The City, victor in the lower courts in its efforts to block the serving of liquor at the Barcelona Gardens, seeks to stem the tide against those seeking to serve liquor in restaurants. Beer and wine, already being served, would not be affected by the high court's decision. Cynthia Davidson, who filed the suit against the city to force issuance of a license to serve liquor with meals, has since negotiated with M & M Cafeteria for operation of a pancake house, but settlement of the legal questions would affect other restaurants within city limits.
Woman Found Not Guilty In Dog Case
A Coral Gables woman, charged with keeping vicious dogs, was found not guilty in Municipal Court last week. Mary Lou Robinson, of 1043 Alhambra Cir., pleaded not guilty to the charge, heard by Judge Charles Spooner. Four of the woman's neighbors had signed warrants against the defendant, charging that they had been attacked repeatedly by the dogs and that they dogs had kept them awake during the past year. Judge Spooner ruled that the dogs technically had not been vicious and lectured the defendant to keep them under control and from disturbing the neighbors. The defendant testified that air conditioning probably prevented her from hearing the dogs.
