A black grand piano takes up a corner of the living room, while another niche is decorated with an old-fashioned desk that comes complete with built-in bookselves. The back rest of the desk chair sports a hand-carved floral design. Again the walls of this room are ornamented with a variety of the owner's paintings, ranging from bright flower drawings to sketches of her Coral Gables home. One of the most impressive, however, is a painting of a friend holding Mrs. Harrison's 15-year-old cat, Big Kitty. In 1937 she painted the wall in her bathroom, and the sketchings of elegant pink flamingos are as bright and brilliant today as they were then. The tropical wading birds are pictures in a lush outdoor setting. Throughout the home, Mrs. Harrison has painted the shades of all the lamps with light sketches of trees, flowers and birds. A protrait of her favorite dog, Skippy, which she had for 16 years, decorates the wall of her bedroom, which is furnished with a large, low dresser and matching light-colored wooden bed. A circular mirror hangs directly on top of the dresser, which is set on an angle to the wall. The guest room is decorated with paintings of scenes from Coral Gables done by one of the city's early artists, Cora Parker. "This is my home. I love it because the house itself is artistic. And I'm surrounded by all the things I like - my garden, paintings and things I have had for many years," she said.

If the piece is wobbly, it joints are probably poor quality. • Shaking the piece to see if the sides, drawers, or panels are loose. • Checking the finish to see that it is blemish free and unstreaked. • Squeezing the arms of sofas and chairs. If there is adequate padding between the fabric and wood, you should not be able to feel the frame.
