People to People program installs 1977 officers at luncheon banquet

The 1977 officers of the Coral Gables People to People Program were installed at a banquet held on Friday, Jan. 7 at the Coral Gables Country Club. Coral Gables Mayor Robert B. Knight installed the following residents to serve as officers during the year: Ted Arch, president; Tom Chegin, vice president; Suzanne McWilliams, recording secretary; Barbara Ullman, corresponding secretary; Chris Robbins, treasurer; and Rose Antczak, historian. Certificates of Merit were presented to the following individuals for services performed in 1976: Yvonne Arch, Suzanne McWilliams, Virginia Herring, Chris Robbins, Barbara Ullman, Robert Gregory, Lorenzo Mixon, Carl Begemann, Leonard Parent and Rose Antczak. Knight also presented outgoing president of the program, William W. Castle, with a key to the city. Assistant City Manager Joe Mantinan received a plaque for outstanding services performed in 1976 for the program.

Charles Hoyt, son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Hoyt of Coral Gables, and a sophomore at Subiaco Academy, a college prep school in Arkansas, was among 33 students named to the school's Honor Roll during the second grading period. To make the honor list students must earn at least a B in all courses and be considered by the school administration to be a responsible member of the student community. In addition to his academic achievements, Hoyt is a member of the Subiaco Trojan Football team and a member of the boxing club.

Loan officer

Gonzalo G. Ruiz Jr. was recently appointed senior vice president and senior loan officer of Fidelity National Bank of South Miami, announced Eugene F. Strews, president of the bank. Prior to his new appointment, Ruiz had served as senior vice president, international department. He joined Fidelity in 1966 as an administrative trainee and moved through various departments until he was promoted to assistant vice president in charge of public relations and marketing in 1971. A native of Havana, Cuba, Ruiz attended Miami-Dade and Florida State. He is a graduate of the Bank Marketing Association School at the University of Colorado, the graduate School of Bank Marketing at the University of Wisconsin, the ABA School of International Banking at the University of Colorado and a 1976 graduate of the ABA Oklahoma University School of Lending.

Two promotions

Abel Holtz, chairman of the board and president of the Capital Banks, announced that Barbara Bernier and Donna Van Deuser have been promoted to positions as assistant cashiers at the Capital Bank of Kendale.
