City Mechanizes Tax Office
City Tax Assessor Ted Blount, whose office frequently is obliged to add columns of astronomical figures, will do all his calculating by machine next week. The city commission authorized the expenditure of $630 for a calculator to replace Blount's nub-worn adding pencil.

Gal Reporter Draws TKO Watching Fight Card Here BUT DON'T WORRY, DEAR READER; NEXT TIME SHE'LL COVER CITY HALL
BY JULIA HARUM (It was Tuesday night. Jim Moore was off cruising somewhere by invitation of he Navy and that left the boss and me to cover the City Commission meeting and the Jaycee boxing matches. "You take the boxing and I'll cover the Commission," I told the Boss). Well, about those boxing fights. In the first two innings, Billy Parker, 91 (he looks younger than that), of the Coral Gables Youth Center met Harold Dormany, 100, of the Hialeah Boys Club; and Ward O'Connell, 114, of the Gables Center, fought Kenny Yates, 108 1/2, also of Hialeah. All I've got to say is that Mrs. Parker and Ward's mother shouldn't let their sons play with such rough kids. I was investigating the rumor that Billy would have won his match if he hadn't given nine pounds away, when it was discovered there had been a burglary. The kids at ringside couldn't wait until the Gables boxers got their kimonas on before they began shouting "You wuz robbed!" What is the world coming to. Stealing from children! Jim Van, 136, from the Downtown Boys Club, won the next fistieuffs. I think the judges decided his opponent, Jim Merando, 132, wasn't paying attention to business. He fell out of the ring three times through sheer nervousness. Harry Morgenthawler was challenging a gray haired gentleman on his right to a 30-second onerounder, with a $100 donation to the Youth Center as stake, so I missed the fight between Skippy Yohan, 135, of the Downtown Boys Club and Billy Morgan, 129, of Hialeah. But I certainly didn't miss the generosity the crowd displayed right after Yohan was declared winner. In a spontaneous and vocal demonstration, the fans offered right there and then to buy the judges' spectacles. They tell me Louis Leonard, 134 1/2, from the Hialeah Boys Club, defeated Jim Mathews, 135, of the Downtown Club in the next frame but I was changing seats to get away from the man who kept yelling "Hey, Jimmy, one-two! Onetwo!" He needn't have been so rude. All I did was tap him on the shoulder to tell him the next line was "Button-my-shoe." Billy Norwood, 156, of the Downtown Boys Club, wore himself out fighting Tom Burleson, 155, of the Miami Boys Club. The referee had to hold his hand up so he could wave to someone after the bout. I guess his girl friend was in the audience. In the final match Al Maxwell, 177 1/2, of Coral Gables, won a teekayoh from Bob Darvill, 206, of Hialeah. Whatever that is, it isn't in the dictionary. Well, what do I care. The boss promised if I learned to add by a week from Tuesday he will cover the next Jaycee fights and I will report the Commission meeting. But just between you, me and the lampshade, he's worried about my health. "You should live so long!" I heard him mutter.
Permit Violators To Pay Double
An ordinance providing for the doubling of fees for building permits for those who launch building projects without securing city approval was adopted on first reading by the City Commission this week. The ordinance also incorporates the fees now being charged for the permits as part of the legal fee schedule. "We have found that many homeowners start repair work or alterations without first securing permits," City Manager W. T. McIlwain told the commissioners.

Plane Noise Seen Curbed
(Continued from Page One) house; commanding officer at the Naval Base and Col. J. H. Houghton of the Army Depot, McIlwain expressed confidence that such an order would "effectively eliminate the complaints of our citizens about service planes." The City Manager revealed that the police department has received several complaints about Army and Navy craft over the city. "Most numerous were complaints that the pilots placed propellors at such a 'pitch' that the noise constituted a nuisance," McIlwain wrote. "We realize that the training of reserve pilots is an absolutely necessary program and that climatic conditions in this area are of the best for this training. "However, we do not believe it necessary to conduct this practice over heavily populated areas such as Coral Gables," he added. Pointing out that the air operations were objectional to patients at Pratt General Hospital and the Coral Gables Hospital as well as students at local schools and the 7,000 enrollees at the University of Miami, the City Manager said: "We respectfully suggest and request that you seriously consider issuing a permanent order placing the aerial limits of the City of Coral Gables off-limits for all training flights except in an emergency or when absolutely necessary because of wind or weather conditions in the process of taking off or landing."

NO—WE WON'T DO A PAINT JOB FOR $25!
WE CAN'T PAINT YOUR CAR FOR THAT KIND OF MONEY—or maybe we should say—WE WON'T PAINT YOUR CAR FOR THAT KIND OF MONEY . . . because here at PARKS MOTORS we turn out nothing but QUALITY work—and you can't buy quality at bargain prices! QUALITY AUTOMOBILE PAINTING is similar to quality mechanical work. It takes a world of sanding and preparation to do a QUALITY paint job . . . and it's impossible to do that type of work in ONE DAY! It takes TWO EXPERIENCED MEN a FULL DAY to PREPARE a car for a quality paint job—and AFTER the car is painted, it takes TWO MEN ANOTHER DAY to finish the job! But when those men ARE finished, Mister-you've got a paint job that is "factory new"—and will weather this climate with a minimum of deterioration.
