P.-T.A. GROUP AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL INSTALLS AS SEASON ENDS
A white picket fence entwined with garlands of flowers transformed the Coral Gables Elementary School auditorium stage into a temporary patio for the fashion show sponsored by the eighth grade sewing class at the Parent Teachers Association meeting Tuesday afternoon. Installation of officers for the ensuing year by Mrs. E. L. Thayer, parliamentarian of the Dade County and Florida State P.-T.A. climaxed the final meeting of the P.-T.A. this year. Upon receiving the presidential gavel from Mrs. W. Wigton Jr., the organization's past president, Mrs. David Peene was officially installed as new leader of the parent-teacher association. During the fashion show, which was the featured entertainment of the afternoon, eighth grade they made in their sewing class. Under the direction of Mrs. Edna Bozeman, the show, entitled "Styles Around the Clock", featured costumes appropriate for every school girl's daily activities starting with shutting off the alarm in the morning while still clad in pajamas, to that special prom date in the evening complete with formal gown. Models Gown Patsy Gray modeled a play dress she had made, and also brought a pint sized two year old model along to wear the ultra pink bathing suit Patsy had made for her. Miss Helen Neilson set the pace for the models by providing piano music background. The program was under the direction of Mrs. George Dixon, club program chairman. The school's force of safety patrol men displayed the new yellow rain coats and hoods bought for them by the P.-T.A. and received an enthusiastic round of applause from the audience contributors. The school band supplied background music for the meeting which was closed by the new president with an invitation to members to adjourn to the patio for refreshments. A display of mechanical drawings done by students of Mr. Logan's eighth grade class was exhibited in the front lobby of the auditorium and as the parent filed out many stopped to give recognition to outstanding work of the students. Other officers installed with Mrs. Peene were Mrs. James Henderson, 1st vice president; Miss Bertha Webb, 2nd vice president; Mrs. R. E. Schole, 3rd vice president; Mrs. William Kelly, recording secretary; Mrs. Edwin Poorman, recording secretary; and Mrs. George Crawford, treasurer.
CITY WEIGHS SITE CHOSEN FOR HOSPITAL
4-Acre Location On 'U' Campus Being Studied Selection of the site for the proposed Coral Gables Hospital was revealed this week when the zoning board was asked to approve a four-acre site at University Drive and Campo Santo. Action on the request was delayed by the board pending study of the effect on surrounding residential property. Should the site meet the approval of the zoning group the matter will be brought before the City Commission with a favorable recommendation. The request was made by Dr. A. D. Amerise, who advised the board that the Gables committee of physicians planned the construction of a general hospital and nurses' home on the site, which is part of the new University of Miami campus. The building is being financed by a group of approximately 40 physicians in the Miami area who have long recognized the need for hospital facilities in Coral Gables. Architect's plans for the hospital project have been approved by both the University of Miami officials and the directors of the hospital project and construction is expected to follow shortly upon the approval of the site by the zoning board and the Gables City Commission.
