The Summer Theatre Group feels confident that this next production, LADIES OF THE JURY, will be as great a hit as JASON and the stage crew is pleased to announce that those who sit toward the back will be able to see considerably more than they could with the last production. The reason? The stage has been raised to 36 inches over the 18-inch stage of Jason. With the dates of the performances being so close, July 1 and 3, extra vigor and last night the group had their first rehearsal of all three acts together. They will be working on the final details every night this coming week and all are putting their best into the production. The group selling tickets have been doing a fine job and although there are still seats left to be sold, all appearances indicate that a third performance will be in great demand, which will be scheduled for July 4. Tickets are on sale at the club reception desk from 8 to 11 p.m. every night and from 1 to 4 p. m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Reservations can be made over the phone during these hours.

Committee Active

The tournaments and trophies committee has begun to get into full swing. Bill Gorman, in charge of men's golf, has already begun working on the yearly schedule for his group of club activities. How many of our golfers have realized the convenience of having a 9-hole course and how short a time it requires to go around it once? A good game of golf can be played in nine holes and during the week players can go out and get in a game before sunset and early in the morning without losing valuable time. Come to think of it, the weather is cooler during those hours, too! Bill Gorman is keeping this fact in mind, too, while he is working on the yearly golf schedule. His schedule of handicaps, tournaments, one-day sweepstakes, blind bogies and flag tournaments will all be based on nine holes. This will certainly enable more people to conveniently participate.

Pleased With Results

Frank Howard of the tournaments committee, is very pleased with the results of the card he and Gordon Taylor, ex-officio, mailed out to the members. The response has been very good so far and the hope is that it will continue to be as good.

Jitterbugs Good

We wish to compliment Jimmy Cocker and his date who gave the members a very good exhibition of the jitterbug Wednesday night, June 18th. Incidentally, Jimmy's partner was Jim Fairbrother, champion diver. Honors also go to Ike and Mary Belle Macy who performed the Bolero and Gus. rache last Saturday night. Also, it looks like a new South American dance has invaded our receptive country and from the looks of it, it will no doubt go over big! It is called La Raspa and is quite popular in the South American countries. Cy Washburn gave the members who were here last Saturday night an introduction to it and several couples who already know the step, joined in on the fun. One of these was Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Roberts, guests of Mr. and Mrs. Van Huff. The Roberts, who are from Costa Rica gave a very good presentation of the dance. The best way to describe this new dance is that it is a South American polka. The couples join hands and in the Latin tempo do a jumpy step similar to that of our good old-fashioned polka! Sounds like fun, no?

Make Reservations

Our Maitre d'Hotel, Charles May, would like to remind you that it is always best to make reservations in the dining room. In order to estimate more accurately the number expected for buffet nights, parties of six or more will get better service if reservations are made. Reservations of any number are requested for Saturday and Sunday nights and when special meals are being served. We can always give better service on Saturday nights if you come before 8 p. m.

Concert Successful

The Philharmonic Concert Tuesday, June 24th was highly successful with Cecilia Duenas as soloist. Miss Duenas gave two encores with piano accompaniment in addition to her two scheduled solos. The J. P. Riddle Foundation for Orchestral Composition presented the "Danse Espanole, Opus 5" by the new composer, Dimitri Shmuklovsky. Appreciation is also due to WBAY for their broadcast of the first portion of the concert, including the "Polovestian" Dances from "Prince Igor."

Williams Is Winner

News comes from the tennis courts that Lynn Williams won the Men's Consolation Singles over Tom Blakey by default. The results of the, Father-Son Doubles were Larry Larson and Bill defeating Sid Blake and Ted, Jr., with the score of 6-3, 6-4.

Phillips Made Honorary Chairman Of Naval Reserve Recruit Drive

Mayor W. Keith Phillips has been named an honorary chairman in the Naval Reserve enrolling campaign, Charles A. Mills, civilian chairman of the Naval Reserve Committee, announced today. Pointing out that the Miami area is falling behind in the quota established, Mills called on Coral Gables businessmen to endeavor to interest their employees in the Naval Reserve program. Several hundred letters are being sent to local businessmen enlisting their active support. "The United States Navy desires 1,148,000 Naval Reservists," Mills stated. "The Naval Air Reserve at Opa-locka has billets for 583 and at present they are 180 short of their goal. The Naval Reserve in Miami requires 1,000 men and at present they have approximately 315. All vacancies should be filled by July 1." Directing an appeal to Coral Gables employers, Mills stated, "Enrollment in the Naval Reserve does not interfere with a young man's work or pleasure. We ask that all Coral Gables employers encourage those who are eligible in their employ to join. We will also be thankful if they will send us the names and addresses of the men in their employ between the ages of 17 and 39. We desire to mail to each of these young men explanation of the advantages in becoming a member of the Naval Reserve. After reading the literature, it will be a decision of each man to choose his course."

MARKETING with Marjorie

Money certainly seems to melt these days (and not from the heat either!) That's why I'm more grateful than ever for the values I find at the A&P...and the quality of everything is always dependable. Marketing there regularly is my pet economy. Try it! And try the money-saving suggestions below, too! THRIFTY THOUGHTS To get almost twice as much juice as usual from a lemon, steep it in hot water a few minutes before you squeeze it. To satisfy big appetites at small cost, choose ANN PAGE FOODS at your A&P. You'll find everything from ready-to-eat main dishes to easy-to-fix desserts in this quality-famous family of products. And when you check current prices on all the ANN PAGE foods, you'll understand why they're called "The Thrifty 33." To freshen stale rolls, sprinkle them with water, wrap in brown paper and warm in a hot oven. LOTS FOR LITTLE My favorite day is WOMAN'S DAY-that grand magazine you can get at A&P Stores and nowhere else. It's filled with new recipes, delightful menu suggestions, fashions and movie news, as well as fascinating fiction, I'd call it a bargain at five times the nickel it costs. What's more, WOMAN'S DAY gives me plenty of its budget-stretching ideas. Get a copy at your A&P. You'll love it! CEREAL SWEETS The nutty flavor of SUNNYFIELD WHEAT PUFFS from the A&P is delicious in cookies made like this: Beat 2 egg whites with 1/8 tsp. salt till foamy. Add 7/8 cup sugar gradually, beating till whites stand in peaks. Beat in 1/2 cup peanut butter. Fold in 2 cups SUNNYFIELD WHEAT PUFFS and 2 tsps. grated orange rind. Drop by teaspoonful on cookie sheet. Bake in moderate oven 375° F., about 12 minutes. Makes 3 dozen cookies.
