Legion Auxiliary Chapter Plans Entertainment For Patients
The Coral Gables American Legion Auxiliary will entertain patients at the Nautilus Hospital tonight with a lingo game. Expenses will be defrayed by Post 98. Cookies and punch will be served and cash and other prizes will be given to winners. Mrs. R. A. Perry will be hostess at the executive board meeting Thursday, July 3rd, at 12:30 p.m. at her home 1414 Elvado Street. Preceeding the meeting a sandwich luncheon will be served. The rummage sale held last Saturday in Cocoanut Grove was a huge success, members of the unit were on duty from 6:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Another sale is planned for the fall, and Mrs. Gladys Conway, secretary of Post 98, will be glad to take anything left at the Legion Home for the sale. The office is open from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and until noon on Saturday.
MISS PAINE AND FIANCE ATTEND REHEARSAL DINNER
Concluding parties for bride-elect Miss Coral Paine and her fiance Austin Raymond Morse Jr., was the rehearsal dinner given last night at the home of Miss Barbara Vernon, 4041 Barbarossa st. Members of the bridal party and out of town guests here for the wedding, were guests at the garden barbecue. Mrs. Olin Cason, aunt of Miss Paine gave her a linen shower on Tuesday at her home on N. E. 71st street. Out of town guests arriving are Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Tibbetts and their daughter Miss Joan Tibbetts of Washington, D. C. and Francis E. O'Brien of Lowell, Mass. The marriage of Miss Paine and Mr. Morse will take place at five p.m. o'clock tomorrow at Trinity Episcopal church. Incidently the bride-groom-to-be sustained a broken bone this past week in his foot in an accident in his father's Florida Fuel Oil Company where he works, which has necessitated wearing a cast. However the mishap will not postpone the marriage.
Clarke House Party Continues
Mrs. Walter H. Clarke, 2716 De Soto Plaza has as house guests this week, Mrs. J. Clyde Seale of Montgomery, Alabama, with Betty 3 and Jimmy 6; Katherine Skogstad, granddaughter of Mrs. Clarke will return with the Searles next week to visit Sun Wood, her recent house guest. Miss Wood resides in Abbeville. July fourth will bring Mr. and Mrs. Walter H. Clarke, Jr., and two year old daughter Nancy from Rome, Ga., for a visit to the senior Mrs. Clarke's household.
To Balboa To Reside
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond J. Brown formerly of 4206 S. W. 13th terrace are residing in Balboa, Canal Zone where Mr. Brown has been transferred by Pan American Airways. Their daughter Mary Ellen and son Floyd are with them while their older son Raymond Jr. has been attending the Baptist Assembly in Ridgecrest, N. C. He will again attend the University of Miami and plans to join his parents for the Christmas holidays. The senior Browns report they are happily situated with a Baptist church, Scottish Rite Temple and Eastern Star chapter in Balboa, but that they will miss their friends in Coral Gables for a long time.

Gordon Lovejoy Named Professor At University
Professor of human relations at the University of Miami next fall will be Dr. Gordon W. Lovejoy, professor of sociology and dean of students at Lynchburg college, Va., whose appointment has been announced by Dr. H. Franklin Williams, dean of the College of Liberal Arts. The chair of human relations was founded at the University when Benjamin E. Bronston of Miami Beach gave the necessary funds through the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Dr. Lovejoy received the degree of bachelor of arts in education and his master of arts degree from the University of Florida, and he took the degree of doctor of philosophy at the University of North Carolina. He has taught at the North Carolina institution and at Furman university. About one-third of the U. S. is forested.

MISS SAUNDERS, MR. TATUM, JR., PLAN TO WED
Of interest to Coral Gables and Miami friends of the couple, is the announcement of the engagement of Miss Mary Shirley Saunders and John Ralph Tatum Jr., which is being made today by her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Saunders of Miami. Miss Saunders is a graduate of Gesu High School and attended Northwestern University, where she was pledged Alpha Gamma Delta. Mr. Tatum Jr., is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Ralph Tatum of Coral Gables. He was graduated from Ponce de Leon High School and served two years in the army air corps during the war. He is now a student at the University of Miami and a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. The couple plans an early fall marriage.
Plans Summer Away
Mrs. S. Ernest Philpitt left this week for Mt. Gretna, Pa., where she has taken a cottage for the summer. She expects to spend the month of September in New York and in October will visit with friends in Sharon, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. William Thomas, Mrs. Philpitt's son-in-law and daughter will occupy her home during her absence.
By Plane to Pennsylvania
Mrs. Robert Liggett and daughter, Joan, of 830 Monterey street, left yesterday by plane for Pennsylvania where they will spend the summer visiting friends in Philadelphia and New York. Wood was first kiln-dried at Norfolk, Virginia in 1879.

'U' Woman's Club President Names Chairmen; Tells Plans
Committee chairmen for the University of Miami Woman's Club have been named by Mrs. William Halstead, new president. Other new officers who are assisting her in making plans for the ensuing year include Mrs. Elmer Hjort, vice president; Mrs. D. R. Larson, secretary; Mrs. Warren Steinbach, corresponding secretary, and Mrs. John Galbreath, treasurer. Mrs. J. Maynard Keech will serve as program chairman for the monthly meetings which are held on the third Thursday afternoon from October to June. Mrs. H. Franklin Williams, general chairman of hospitality will have as co-chairmen Mrs. Morton Miller in charge of tea and Mrs. Virgil Barker, social contact. Mrs. Don Cook has been named membership chairman and Mrs. Russell Rasco scholarship chairman, and Mrs. J. Riley Staats, publicity chairman. A new service committee will be headed by Mrs. J. Paul Reed. While regular club meetings have been discontinued during the summer many of the varied interest groups are continuing their sessions as usual. Among these are the book review group, Mrs. George Smart, chairman; child study group, Mrs. Robert Way, chairman; afternoon bridge group, Mrs. Julian Corrington; evening bridge group, Mrs. Ralph Binford; tongue and needle group, Mrs. J. Maynard Keech. Other interest groups which will resume meetings in the fall include play reading group, Mrs. Charton Teabeau; home arts group, Dr. Ruth Clouse; sports, Miss Margaret Mustard.
MISS MORALES PLANS MEDICAL CAREER
Miss Beatrice Morales who was graduated magna cum laude from the University of Miami this June will enter Tulane University in the fall where she plans to continue her medical studies towards a degree in pediatrics. Miss Morales gave a "Mexican" luncheon recently at the home of her parents, 2022 North Greenway Drive honoring Miss Norma May Turner who has just returned from Emory University Dental school. In addition to Miss Turner, those attending the party included Miss Nancy Holz, Miss Helen Montgomery, Miss Eris Stevens and Miss Elena Morales, a sister of the hostess.
Visits Parents
Lieutenant H. Lorentz Dimmig, USA., and Mrs. Dimmig are concluding a two weeks visit with both Mrs. Dimmig's parents and Mr. Dimmig's mother. The lieutenant is stationed at Elgin Field, Florida.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth P. Ringer and son of Coral Gables are sojourning in Daytona Beach, guests at the Riviera Hotel, on the Halifax.
Coco Plum Women Announce Summer Club Activities
Stories to stir the imagination and enchant the minds of children will be told when the Coco Plum Library story hour starts Wednesday July 2, at 2 p.m. in the Coco Plum club house on Sunset Road. Mrs. Prescott Frost, a University senior majoring in English, has chosen to tell her stories to two age groups. Monday she will entertain children six and seven years of age and Wednesday at the same hour, children in the 'eight years or older' group will listen to her carefully selected tales. Coco Plum Library is the only library offering a summer story hour. Mothers who have planned to keep their children home this summer may enjoy this free time, knowing that enchantment comes as easily 'when hurrying feet are still' Another summer activity of the Coco Plum Club will be a class in upholstery which will start Monday July 21, from 9 a.m. to 12. This will be an eight weeks course under the supervision of Mrs. Hester Parker. Women may bring their own furniture to work on. Registration will be limited and those interested may call Mrs. G. C. Entertains Classmate
Classmate and house guest of Miss Ann Nicholson over the week end will be Miss Persus Hoas of Palm Beach. The young women received their degrees at Florida State June 9. Miss Nicholson leaves next week for New York City to attend a six weeks seminar in Theatrical Scenic Design at Fordham University.
