Budget Passage Scheduled At Meeting on July 8th

Cartee, president of the Riviera Property Owners Association told the commission that "the well as being siphoned dry" by the increasing amounts of money paid on TPC's and suggested that the city offset this by lowering assessments and increasing millage. City Attorney Edward L. Semple stated that the city was bound by covenants of its refunding agreements to assess property at full value. The revised budget was slashed approximately $28,000 from the original estimate after recommendations had been made by the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce Citizens' Tax Committee. At the hearing, Mayor Phillips thanked the committee for its aid and expressed pleasure at the news that the group would function permanently. The payroll increases for city workers average more than 4 percent with policemen and firemen receiving raises ranging from 6 to 10 per cent. Department heads from the city manager on down get raises varying with rank and position. Millage remains at 21.

League Play Opens Monday
