Youth Center Construction Cost Slashed $22,000
WILL REDUCE LOAN NEED TO $40,000
One Room Eliminated By Directors Temporary exclusion of one proposed room in the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center will reduce the necessary construction loan to complete the building from $60,000 to $40,000 it was announced this week following the meeting of the board of directors. The directors voted to eliminate one room by shifting planned activities to other portions of the building so that the loan decrease might be effected. Can Add Later The building is so planed that the room can be added at a later date, or included in the proposed construction should payment of uncollected pledges exceed present expectations. Construction on the remaining portion of the Center will be started as soon as the loan can be arranged, Harry W. Morgenthaler stated yesterday. The work will be done by the Hodgman Merritt Construction Company, low bidders. The room exclusion is expected to reduce the original bid of $72,780 by approximately $22,000. Morgenthaler and William L. Gray, Jr., were named a committee of two to carry out loan negotiations. Morgenthaler will contact the First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Miami.

PISTOL RANGE IS PROPOSED NEAR GABLES
Coral Gables marksmen will have a nearby pistol and rifle range within three weeks if the present plans of C. L. Theed, Coconut Grove attorney, are realized. Work on the target practice range is progressing and points for pistol shooting should be completed in two weeks, Theed said today. There are no facilities for target shooting now in the Greater Miami area the attorney pointed out. In this connection Lieutenant A. T. Kelley, Jr., local fire department member and statistician of the Florida East Coast Pistol League, reported that organization has had to travel to other cities to conduct their matches. Kelley stated the pistol league would make use of the new range as soon as it is ready. The club has numerous matches scheduled with the next to be held at West Palm Beach this Sunday. The new range is on the site formerly used by old Palmetto Pistol club and is located between Coral Way and Bird Road near 104th Street.
Back Dated License to Boat
Issuance of beer and wine permits to the amusement boat Atlantis and to My Brother's Place, 910 Ponce de Leon Boulevard, and a wholesale restaurant supply license was reported by the license bureau today. The Atlantis license also authorized operation of a restaurant and a general amusement boat. Although owner George F. Sharkey originally applied for a license three months ago, action on the matter was deferred by the city commission until last week when it was approved. The license was dated as of April 18 when the first request was filed. Offering water taxi service and docking facilities to private boat owners, the Atlantis is a large vessel anchored in the Coral Gables section of Biscayne bay. Richard and Worth Gruelle were issued the beer and wine permit for My Brother's Place which up to the present time has operated as a restaurant. Listing the business as wholesale restaurant supply, Barnett Bloom received a license for Bluebell Foods at 115 Avenue Cevilla.
