Objections were reported from Jepeway Liquor Store and Dennis Murphy. Action was deferred. Disapproved a request to change zoning of lots 27 through 36, Block 15, Biltmore Section from residential use to duplex after a petition protesting was filed by 16 adjacent property owners at a public hearing, Monday. No Action The commission took no action on a request by Harry Shank to lower restrictions in Riviera Waterways section because lower zoning has been permitted in Biltmore Estates. Called a public hearing for July 28 on rezoning lots 32 to 48 on the west half of the property south of the Riviera Golf course from residence to duplex or fraternity use. Request Denied Denied a request by Dr. S. L. Rainforth for a zoning exception to use lots in the rear of Howard Johnson Restaurant and Playdium Bowling Alleys for parking use. Adjascent residents had previously filed protests on any extension of parking facilities there. Deferred any action of proposals to rezone Biscayne Key. Deferred action on a request by Stone's Liquor store to move from 208 Coral Way to a site on Avenue Aragon just west of Riviera-Times building. Hearing Called Set a public hearing for July 28 on a request by Clark Rowe to move his package liquor store from 4005 Aurora Street to 222 Bird Road. Deferred action until a full commission is present on a request by Jack Fryte to erect a carpet golf course at University Drive and Salzedo Street. Action will require a zoning exception and an amendment to an ordinance prohibiting businesses operating in the open. Approved a request by E. E. Reichert to replat lots 17 tnd 18, Block 30, Granada section, which face west on Genoa Street, so that one may face west on Genoa and the other south on Avenue Aguila. Wants Filling Station Called for a public hearing on a request by Alice R. Lanni to operate a filling station instead of her real estate office on Alhambra Circle, lot 5, Block 24, section "L". The building was formerly used as a filling station and later rezoned. Denied a request to moor the charter boat "Audrey C" on city property in the canal west of LeJeune Road bridge. Approved a request by W. J. Potter to resubdivide lots 17, 18, 19 and 20, Block 15, Coconut Grove section so that two duplexes can be built, one facing east on Ponce de Leon Bulevard and one north on Avenue Camilo. Returned to the commission a request by A. Frankel to rezone two lots in the rear of the San Sebastian domitories from residential to duplex use. The commission has asked the board to consider rezoning the entire street for duplex use. Approved a request by the Donvin Corporation to erect a 20-unit apartment on Avenue Madeira between Douglas Road and Galiano Street, with a 16-inch overhang flat roof instead of parapet type.

Many Apply For Bunce Scholarships

Over 50 applications from Latin America for two special, full-tuition scholarships, were reported today by the Bunce School of Laboratory Technique in Coral Gables. The scholarships, valued at $450 each, were announced in South American newspapers as being available to any resident of Latin America who has the equivalent of a high school education. The school is one of five schools of its kind in the country and the only one located near South America. It offers a complete course in laboratory techniques. One of the students will begin studies on September 2 and the other January or May.
