COUNTRY CLUBBER

CORAL GABLES COUNTRY CLUBBER By GORDON TAYLOR Soaring off into a bright and active future for the Tournaments and Trophies Committee is a figurative and literal description. Arch Randolph, Jr., chairman of the Flying Group is also president of the Dade Aviation Corp. and it is his intention to give those interested in flying, or soaring, the full support of his organization. He thrilled us all at the meeting the other night about how easy it was to own a glider and learn to soar in one. If you can own a good sized rowboat, you can own a glider. Imagine paying a couple of bucks to get towed off the ground and then deciding to glide down to Key West for a little fishing. Sounds like the day of flapping our wings and taking off is not far away. Music Group Andy Houston, Chairman of the Music Group is going to work on the members of his committee to get started on a glee club. I understand there are some very fine voices numbered in our membership. Betty Bliss and her committee, consisting of Alonzo Bliss, Bill and Joan Knoche, Don Leigh, Mary Harrison, Gwen and "Nook" Tuckerman, Nina Taylor and A. P. Mekim, are hard at work on the plans for the "Convention of the States" party to be held the 30th of this month, Wednesday night. In case you haven't heard, it's the first costume party for the members in a series of parties scheduled by the entertainment committee. All you have to do is dress in a costume typical, or representative of the state from which you came. Also, wear an armband with the abbreviation of your home state so you can be easily identified. Reservations for the "All Florida Buffet Diner" that same evening will be taken by names of States. All Georgia at one table, all Ahio at another and so on. Prizes for the best costume will be awarded, so don't hold back anything. The riding group, chairmaned by Muriel Marshall, met at the club last night. It looks like they are going to have a lot of fun. To Select Play Tonight the Theatre Group meets to select the next play. All you aspirants come out and see how this splendid organization of members has pulled two successful hits out of the bag—number three coming up. We'll have it stop raining, if that is what kept some of you from not showing up last week. The pioneers of the theatre group deserve a lot of credit and all we members thank them for six highly entertaining evenings. We'll announce the next director next week. Dance Team The beautiful feminine half of that charming dance team last Wednesday was Senorita Rosita Segovia, the featured entertainer at one of the local clubs. The capable and brilliant leader was member Tom Duff. A hand to Mr. J. P. Riddle for getting them together. We are going to try and get Tom Duff to take the Chairmanship of the dancing group. Fred Jones, the popular Constellation pilot, is going to town on the photographic group. I'm told he exposes people to superfine portraits. Be sure to get those camera fiends to taking pictures of everything around the club, Fred, and we'll post the results on the bulletin board if there are too many for all the papers to use. Art Exhibit Mrs. J. Allen Brown promises us some fine art exhibits for both Fall and Spring. The first Art Committee meeting will be Tuesday, July 22nd at 8:00 p.m. at the Club. No reason why we shouldn't have top notch exhibits by our famed member artists. I am told they will invite the art classes from the University and Ponce, too. Great going, Enna. We'll have prizes all ready for those winning amateurs. The photographic group will follow in your footsteps. One of our soon-to-be doctor members says he has a daughter of championship swimming calibre. You can be sure that Johnny Rossaco and his staff are going to find it out. Johnny tells me that all the pros are looking on the champion diving material among the Juniors. Chairman Larry Larson will be calling on his senior and junior swimmers soon for an up and coming program. Boating Program Dr. Bob Dickey, Frank Kerdyke and Dick Marshall are working on a boating and fishing program. Mr. and Mrs. Elgie are working with the Bridge players to get up a yearly program. Dr. Fitzgibbons will be in touch with the trap and skeet enthusiasts soon. The winners in the contract Bridge Groups the past week were Mrs. James Railsback, Mrs. T. Ralph Coard, and Mrs. Kitty Rhoads. Schedule of Events Fri., July 18—Rotary Club Luncheon 12:15 p.m. Civic room. Contract Bridge 8 p. m., Card Room. Theatre: the play selection for the next performance will be in the Granada room, 8 p.m. All members are invited. Sat., July 19—Club Dance 9 to 1 a.m. Sun., July 20—Dinner and Music 6 to 9 p.m. Mon., July 21—Duplicate Bridge 8 p.m., Card room. Tues., July 22—Kiwanis Luncheon 12:15 p.m., Civic room. Contract Bridge 1:30 p.m., Card room. Optimist Club dinner 6:30 p.m., Red room. Wed., July 23—Lions Club Luncheon 12:15 p.m., Civic room. Buffet Supper 7 to 9 p.m. Club Dance 9 to 12 m. Thur., July 24—Duplicate Bridge 1:30 p.m., Card room. Country Club Board of Directors' Dinner and Meeting 6:30 p.m., Red room.

WALTER PIDGEON and Claudette Colbert are co-starred in "The Secret Heart" which will be shown Sunday and Monday at the Coral Theater.

IT LOOKS AS THOUGH Lou is getting the home-coming welcome every soldier dreamed about from Joan Fulton but it's more hilarious than heart-throbbing in "Buck Privates Come Home" with Abbott and Costello showing at the Grove Theatre Saturday at 9 p. m. and Sunday and Monday, July 19-21.
