Dr. B. M. Larson, pastor of the Gables Presbyterian church, announces that on next Sunday (July 20th) at the 11 a.m. church service he will deliver the second part of a sermon on prayer. The particular theme for Sunday will be "The Content and Spirit of Prayer." Dr. Larson will say in part, "Prayer being the language of the Father's house into which the believer has been born, the first thing about prayer is to begin to pray, and the second is to persevere in praying. But what is to be the content of prayer? About what may we pray? As the child may discuss with his parents anything that is of interest to him, so we may make anything that is of concern to us a matter of prayer. God is eager to hear us in prayer, bringing to him in the language of the Father's house anything that is of concern or interest to us. All of life, its every detail, hopes, and aspirations are worthy matters of prayer. Our life then becomes an open book before God, made so by our voluntary action. Jesus teaches us that the spirit of our prayers is to be unselfish. No one can truly pray in the spirit of the Lord's prayer with a selfish interest. The plea there is inclusive. It leaves others into its spirit. "Forgive me"—yes. But the prayer says "forgive us." "Give me"—yes. But praying in the spirit of the Lord's the petition includes the needs of others, "give us." The spirit of Christian Prayer sweeps the universe, and reaches out as far as the

"Life" is the subject of the Lesson-Sermon which will be read in Church of Christ, Scientist, throughout the world on Sunday, July 20. The Golden Text is: "The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup; thou maintainest my lot. . . . Thou wilt shew me the path of life" (Psalms 16:5, 11). Among the citations which comprise the lesson-sermon is the following from the Bible: "God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things" (Acts 17:24, 25). The lesson-sermon also includes the following passage from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and using higher and higher from a boundless basis. . . . Mortals have a very imperfect sense of the spiritual man and of the infinite range of his thought. To him belong eternal Life" (258:13-15, 25-27).
