Presbyterians Plan Fall Visitation Campaign
Presbyterians are planing a program of visitation for reaching new members for churches of Greater Miami and the lower east coast from Fort Lauderdale to Homestead, with actual visitation for members covering a five-day period from October 5 to October 9. Preliminary steps thus far taken have included a meeting of ministers and representatives of churches to hear an outline of the campaign presented by Dr. Cecil Thompson, Prof. of Evangelism in Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, Ga., who has been secured to direct the effort, and appointment of special committees. The Rev. Daniel Iverson, who recently served with Dr. Thompson in a similar campaign in Atlanta, Ga., which was highly successful, heads the local committee. This type of program, known as "Visitation Evangelism," is being promoted with marked results throughout the U.S. which enlists local church members in a simultaneous program of planned visitation of prospective members to extend a personal invitation to become active members in the life of the community. The General Committee, of which the Rev. Daniel Iverson is chairman, also includes the Rev. Robert Marshburn, secretary; and W. R. Frierson, treasurer. The following sub-committees have also been appointed: Promotional Committee: Rev. G. H. Ricks, chairman; Dr. J. V. Johnson, Rev. Daniel Iverson, Rev. Robert Marshburn and J. N. Vennam. Prospective Committee: Rev. B. A. Cumming, chairman; Rev. D. C. Bartges, Rev. W. E. Garrett. Finance Committee: Dr. J. C. Pelgrim, chairman; Rev. E. H. Perkins, M. R. Frierson. Publicity Committee: Rev. J. H. Caligan, chairman; Dr. B. M. Larson and J. H. Powell. One lay member will be asked to serve with his pastor in each church as a "key man" in promoting the campaign. All local Presbyterian U. S. churches (Southern Assembly) participating.

Gables Presbyterian
The Gables Presbyterian Church will receive new members on next Sunday. The Charter Membership Roll will also remain open, August 1st. Dr. Larson in announcing the services for next Sunday stated that several had already indicated their purpose to unite with the church, and stated that others who may wish to be charter members should notify him that arrangements might be made to receive them. Dr. Larson indicated that in his sermon next Sunday morning he would speak on "The Tithe, a Controlling Principle," stating in part "The paying of the Tithe in support of the cause of Christ is basically right. Moses emphasized it because it was fundamental. There are nations that know nothing about religious sacrifices, but none completely ignorant of the payment of the tithe for religious uses. The payment of one tenth of his material increase to the support of the cause of Christ is not enjoined upon the Christian as a law which he must obey. It is presented to him as a principle which is to control him in the administration of his material goods. In accepting this principle he acknowledges God in the daily round, and admits that God has something of stake in his material affairs. In paying the tithe the Christian deals frankly and honestly with God, and makes the whole of life on the material level around his consciousness of God's daily presence. Failure to accept the principle of the tithe is most usually religious. The tithe as controlling principle is rested upon men, because it is right!"

Among the citations which comprise the Lesson-Sermon is the following from the Bible: "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world; but ye be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God" (Romans 12:1, 2). The Lesson-Sermon also includes the following passage from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "Look away from the body into Truth and Love, the Principle of all happiness, harmony, and immortality. Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts" 261:2).
