Gablesgrams

BY HELEN REYNOLDS, SOCIETY EDITOR One of Coral Gables career girls is Juliet Petrecca, (Pilkington Photo) who left this week for New York City to further her knowledge of flowers for the business she is in. She will attend classes in floral arrangement and get new ideas for making corsages, a business that was frowned upon during the war as superfluos. We remember when Mrs. Petrecca started her Coral Way shop just a few months before the war. Determined to make a success of her new venture, about which she later confessed she knew very little, Mrs. Petrecca combined hard work, long hours and a willingness to please, to win. Parties began to be listed in the date book of Miss Mary Elizabeth Orr, bride-elect of William Forrest Sistrunk, almost as soon as the announcement of the betrothal was made known. Mrs. William Bordeaux has chosen July 26 as the date of the linen shower she will give. Miss Ellen Michele Fairbrother who will serve as maid-of-honor, will entertain a group at a lingerle shower on August 2 and on August 12, Mrs. S. A. Shikany will give one of her famous oriental luncheons, hosiery and handkerchief showers for Miss Orr. "To Study in New York" Another bride-elect to be feted tomorrow is Miss Jeane Williams bride-elect of Benjamin Sinkus. Mrs. J. Fritz Gordon and Mrs. Royce Powell will give a bridge-luncheon with a bridal theme, at the Country Club of Coral Gables. Among guests will be Kappa Sigma sorority sisters of Miss Williams at the University of Miami. The marriage will take place Aug. 29th at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church at 7:30 p.m. Miss Williams has named her sister Miss Marjorie Williams as her maid-of-honor; Mrs. John Stoddart, bridesmaid; and Victoria Parkinson and Ruth Wilson bridesmaids. * * * Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Brock and daughter, four year old Cynthia, have just returned from a month's visit with kinsfolk in Atlanta and a sojourn at Fontana Dam, North Carolina. The Brocks are filled with praise for what they describe as the perfect vacation spot at the Dam. A government project it is built high in the mountains and the little village connected thereto, is made up of the "sweetest little cottages available to mountain visitors that you ever saw," Mrs. Brock explains. * * * The marriage of Miss Hope Kidder Wishar and Edward Comegys Dukehart which was to have taken place today in a church ceremony has been postponed due to the serious illness of the bride-groom elect. Miss Wishar plans to leave for Baltimore and announcement of the marriage to take place there will be made.
