Little Church in Cloudland Chosen for Wedding Ceremony

A wedding scene that had a "comin' around the mountain" theme, because that popular air was played by the organist as the couple left the little mountain church where they were wed, culminated the marriage of Miss Martha Emily Thomas, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Edwin C. Thomas of Miami and Cloudland, Ga., and Graham Conrad Miller of Miami, Friday July 18 in Cloudland. The marriage was performed at 5 o'clock p.m. in the little Community Church at Cloudland, and because it was the first wedding performed in the little edifice since it was erected in 1934 the church bells rang out the glad tidings preceding the processional. Miss Jane Thomas, sister of the bride and Miss Shirley Miller, sister of the bridegroom in colorful print dresses and gardenias corsages were the bride's attendants. The bride was attractive in an aqua marine gabardine suit with corsage of orchids. Accessories were in black and her black taffeta bonnet was made off the face style and tied with wide loops of ribbon. Francis Miller acted as best man for his son. Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. H. A. Leavitt played a program of nuptial music and the traditional wedding marches. Tall candelabra interspersed with standards of white gladioli and carnations with baskets of Queen Ann lace and fern were decorations. Dr. J. D. Kuykendal, pastor at both Cloudland and Hawthorne churches, and former pastor of the Plymouth Congregational Church, Coconut Grove, performed the ceremony. Reception at Hotel Following the ceremony a reception and wedding supper was held at the Cloudland Park Hotel after which the bride and groom left on a honeymoon trip through Alabama, Georgia and Florida. Mrs. Thomas, mother of the bride wore a navy blue chiffon and Mrs. Miller, mother of the bridegroom was attired in grey silk crepe. Among out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Henry of Montgomery, Ala., cousins of the bride; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Weller and son Douglas, sister and brother-in-law and nephew of the bridegroom, and Mrs. J. D. Girtman of Coral Gables. Both the bride and groom are popular members of the younger set of Miami, where they will reside. Mr. Miller, an accomplished musician is an attorney and prominently identified in the civic life of this area.

Vacationing at the Smoky Mountain Club near Asheville, N. C., are Mrs. Van E. Huff and daughter, Peggy, of 3222 Riviera Drive; also Mrs. John L. Tierney and daughter, Jean, of 1136 Alhambra Circle.
