Florida Girls Will Be Hosts at Boston Party

By HELEN REYNOLDS, SOCIETY EDITOR Mrs. Andrew Somma Jr., is packing her trunk destined for Saratoga Springs, N. Y., mostly with golf paraphernalia, for she and Mr. Somma expect to play a lot of golf at the famous New York spa during their eight weeks vacation. Accompanied by their wirehaired terrier "Tinker" the Sommas are motoring, leaving Tuesday. They will be the guests of Mr. Somma's parents, the senior Andrew Somma's who have lived in Saratoga Springs all of their lives. Mrs. Somma, a popular member of the Coral Gables Junior Woman's Club, was its chairman of music last season. She recently returned from a trip to Nassau. * * * * A round of parties has been given to Mrs. Grace Witherspoon since her arrival from Temple, Texas, for a visit with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Hodge. Tuesday Mrs. G. G. (Betty) Lee entertained at luncheon at her home, 680 University Drive. On Wednesday Mrs. Lee Gebhart honored both Mrs. Witherspoon and Mrs. Barry Ryan of New York at a luncheon at her home, 1101 Avenue Malaga. Yesterday Mrs. Ryan and her mother Mrs. Helena Elliot entertained at the Country Club of Coral Gables at a luncheon for the Texas guest. Mrs. Elliot and Mrs. Ryan just returned from a plane trip to Guatemala City and other foreign points including Mexico. * * * * On Vacation: Mr. and Mrs. M. B. JUNIORS' NAME TUESDAY FOR COKE PARTY

The final in the series of "coke parties" honoring prospective members of the Coral Gables Junior Woman's Club will be held at 10:30 a. m. on Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Bernard Good, 3401 Granada Blvd., Coral Gables. Mrs. Good will be assisted by the membership chairman, Mrs. Jack Trout. Informal "theme parties" will replace these coke parties during the month of August continuing an effort to acquaint prospective members with the club and its members. In addition to Mrs. Good and Mrs. Trout, the following members have been invited: Mrs. T. H. Chapman, Mrs. J. T. Gresham, Mrs. O. H. McMillan, Mrs. Curtis Haggard, Mrs. Edward B. Styles, Mrs. Ed Morris and Mrs. Karl Madsen. Guests will include Mrs. Roy Sheldon, Mrs. Harrison Fatiah, Mrs. Ted Treff, Mrs. George Morris, Mrs. George Sweet, Mrs. Willard Morris, Mrs. Jack Emley and Mrs. F. Allen Jones, Jr.

BALLARD FAMILY BECOMES GABLEITES

Anticipated addition to the various cultural groups in the city is the arrival of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Ballard of Huntington, West Virginia who have recently purchased a home at 731 Avenue Minorca. Mr. Ballard is a retired business man. He was a mattress manufacturer in Huntington, and a member of the Manufacturers club, Chamber of Commerce and Lions International of Huntington. Mrs. Ballard was a member of the Huntington and Arcata Garden clubs being a consistant blue ribbon winner in flower arrangement and table setting. Some of her arrangements have been shown in "Flower Grower" by Dorothy Biddle. Mrs. Ballard is also a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy. Their daughter Jetta 19, graduated last May from Stephens Junior College, Columbia, Mo., and was affiliated with Alpha Alpha Gown of Alpha Sigma Frazier Tau, honorary art sorority. Their son "Neb" attended the University of West Virginia where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Both Jetta and Neb will enter the University of Miami this fall.

Gableite Initiated

Joseph Young of Coral Gables is among nineteen Indiana University post graduate students who were recently initiated into the Alpha Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, national educational fraternity.

JOSEPH HUFFS RETURN FROM HONEYMOON Wedding Was Event of July 7th; Couple Will Reside in Georgia Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Winston Huff left Friday for their new home in West Point, Ga., following a ten-day honeymoon trip to Havana, Cuba, and their marriage July 7th in quaint Plymouth Church, Coconut Grove. For her marriage, the bride, the former Miss Normla Genevieve Davies, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Gwynn Davies of 305 Avenue Menores, wore an all-white summery bridal frock of eyelet with long train, full illusion veil and carried a bouquet of white orchids and stephanotis. Her aunt, and only attendant, Miss Florence Moore, wore a gown of deep blue eyelet. It was made like the bride's except the skirt ended in a floor length sweep. Her fowers were orchids and fresh blossoms adorned her hair. Tall standards of white gladioli decorated the church where the double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. A. A. Davis, pastor. Frederick Kent, organist and pianist, played favorite numbers requested by the bride, including: Heydn's "Austrian Hymn" for the entrance and Beethoven's "Worship of God in Nature" for the exit of the bridal party. Preceding the service he played "Clair de Lune" and Arabeque" by Dubossy and "Klokkeklang" by Grieg. Frank Norman of West Point was best man. The bride's mother wore a persian print silk with white accessories, white and red roses hat and orchid corsage. Her grandmother, Mrs. Genevieve Bristol Moore of Coral Gables wore a figured chiffon, white hat and orchids. The bridegroom's mother, Mrs. William Holloway Huff of West Point was in white silk shantung with green pipings, white hat and white orchid corsage. His maternal grandmother, Mrs. Eunice Horsley Winston wore white silk multi-print, white hat and orchid corsage. Following the nuptials a reception was held at the home with Mrs. Huff and Miss Moore receiving. For the plane trip to Cuba, the bride wore a white pique suit with red hat and bag and accessories, with orchid corsage. Among out-of-town guests in addition to those mentioned was Miss Vivian Davies, of Washington, D. C. Culminating a college romance began when both the bride and groom attended the University of Georgia, the bride after graduating at the University of Ohio received her master's degree in fine arts at Mills College, Oakland, Cal. She taught at Smith College, Northampton, N. Y. and at Wheaton College, Norton, Mass. The granddaughter of Mrs. Genevieve Bristol Moore and the late Frank Judd Moore of New York state, and of the late Genevieve Reese Davies and Evan Davies of Pennsylvania. Mr. Huff, member of an old southern family, is the son of Mrs. William Holloway Huff of West Point and the late Mr. Huff. Fol- (Continued from Page 8)

Shooting Club To Stage First Meet Saturday

First meeting of the newly organized "shooting club" at the Country Club of Coral Gables will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday (tomorrow) at the Etchens Shooting Club, 103 st. and 13th Avenue N. W. Under the supervision of Dr. T. L. Fitz-Gibbon, chairman for the country clubbers, a registered shoot will take place. Each participating member is permitted to bring a guest. Food will be provided by the shooting club after the games. Tonight at 7:30 oclock the tennis group will meet in the Red Room of the club to discuss various plans according to Mrs. E. E. Pennock, chairman.

MR., MRS. CLUB PLAN DINNER MEET TONIGHT

The Mr. and Mrs. Club of the Coral Gables Congregational Church will meet Friday, August 1, at seven o'clock for dinner at The Green Lantern restaurant. After dinner the group will go to the home of Dr. and Mrs. Gunnarnd Antell, 434 Alcazar Avenue for a short business meeting followed by a social hour. Assisting Dr. and Mrs. Antell will be Mr. and Mrs. John D. McNamara.

Studies In New York

Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Smith are visiting in New York and Washington and will return via Akron, Ohio, where Mr. Smith will be tenor soloist with the "Welch Song Fest" August 31st. Mr. Smith, teacher of voice at the Conservatory, is taking some master classes at "Ganonocka" under Dr. John Finley Williamson, director of Westminster choir.

Weekend Guests

Mr. and Mrs. Fed Engle and their daughter Miss Christobel Engle of Jacksonville, were the week end guests of Mrs. Robert Pentland, 900 Elrado street. The Engles were enroute to Key West.

Reception To Honor 500 Attending Dental Convention

Florida will be very much in evidence at the evening reception August 3rd of the American Dental Assistants Association, in Boston, Mass., when girls wearing caps with Florida printed across the front serve Florida citrus juice punch at the Florida sponsored reception. Miss Rose Horn, president of the State Dental Assistants Association, will leave Saturday for Boston to attend the convention. Eight other girls of the Florida association will attend. They will be hostesses for the reception at which approximately 500 dental aids from the United States and Canada will attend. The citrus juice is being furnished by the Florida Citrus Commission. Henry Close Family At Montreat, N. C.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Close and son Henry and daughter Carolyn are vacationing in Montreal, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. Close and Carolyn drove to Sparta, Tenn., to pick up Henry in June, a student at the Vanderbilt Engineering Camp. They were the guests of Dean Fred Lewis and Mrs. Lewis while there and had an opportunity to meet many of the faculty members. Henry will return to Vanderbilt in September where he made a fine record in his freshman year.

Mrs. Hunter, Hostess

Mrs. Parks Hunter will be hostess for circle 4 of the Woman's Association of the First Presbyterian Church at 12:00 noon Aug. 8, meeting to be held at the Church.
