CLIPPING HOME

Reverend Patrick O'Donahue, pastor of St. Paul's Church, Arcadia, Fla., departed last week from La Guardia Field, N. Y., on Pan American World Airways Clipper Kit Carson. Father O'Donahue is returning for a visit to his home in Knocknagoshel, County Kerry, Eire. This is his first visit to Eire since he came to this country almost eight years ago — to the day—on the steamship Britanic. His journey back to the Emerald Isle, to the county of the Lakes of Killarney, a picturesque land of ancient round towers, castles and famous abbeys, will take approximately a twelfth of the time aboard the Clipper Kit Carson in comparison with what it took him to get to the United States in 1939. Father O'Donahue also plans to visit London for a week during his stay on the other side. He will return to New York on Pan American World Airways Clipper, leaving Shannon, Eire, on September 18th. Prior to his assignment as pastor of St. Paul's in Arcadia, Father O'Donahue was stationed at the Church of the Little Flower in Coral Gables.

School Guidance Program Is Outlined By Snyder

Plans for the establishment of a guidance program in Dade County schools were outlined to members of the Coral Gables Kiwanis Club on Tuesday by Robert Snyder, administrative assistant to the superintendent of public instruction. Snyder was the guest of School Board Member James Henderson and spoke at the regular luncheon meeting at the Country Club of Coral Gables. He said that a survey made in the graduating class last year indicated that students did not feel that they were getting enough assistance in vocational guidance. Under the new guidance program, which will be put in effect under a coordinator, additional personnel will be supplied to give the students the personal contact they need on guidance problems. The plan is also designed to help students think straight and for themselves. Contact with the parents of the students will also be stressed in the new program. During the Civil War, 350 Southern Officers and midshipmen remained in the United States Navy to serve with Union forces.
