Will Discuss Re-burial of War Victims
Next of kin of World War II dead from Coral Gables who are buried overseas may obtain the latest official information on final disposition of deceased under the government reburial program at a mass meeting in the Miami Civic Auditorium, Bayfront Park, on Tuesday, August 5, at 8 p.m. Lt. Col. John H. Pruitt, QMC, Chief, American Graves Registration division, Southeastern states, is coming from Atlanta at the invitation of the Dade County Commanders' Council, representing all American Legion posts in the county. Col. Pruitt will make a 15-minute talk on the options open to next of kin and the talk will be illustrated by a 15-minute sound film. Serving officers and chaplains of all veteran groups are also urged to attend. Invitations are extended to ministers of all denominations, public officials and morticians to hear Col. Pruitt's talk. The War Department is bringing home the remains of all World War II dead if requested to do so by next of kin. The first shipload of 6500 caskets will leave Hawaii in the fall. Next of kin may elect to have the remains reburied in a permanent United States military cemetery abroad or in a national cemetery at home. Or they may decide to have the remains brought home for interment in a private cemetery or transported to a foreign land which may be the homeland of the deceased or next of kin. In event of burial in a military cemetery the government bears all the expense. If burial is in a private cemetery the government will contribute $50 and a headstone toward the expense of final burial in addition to transporting the remains to the point requested by next of kin.

Hibiscus Garden Progress Is Reported at Fairchild
Extensive progress has been made on the development of the Noel Chamberlin Hibiscus Garden at the Fairchild Garden in Coral Gables. Over two hundred specimen hibiscus plants of many unusual varieties have been planted recently in this garden and it is being rapidly developed to take its place among the several outstanding features of the Fairchild Tropical Garden. During the past week over 70 specimens of hibiscus plants representing 15 choice varieties were received from the Delaware estate of Mr. H. F. du Pont and planted out in their permanent location. Dozens of other hibiscus varieties are being grown on to specimen size for inclusion in the Noel Chamberlin Hibiscus Garden. These have been selected from the choicest varieties to be found growing in Florida while others have been obtained from Hawaii where many of the showiest hibiscus are to be found.
