MR. AND MRS. FRANK JAMES cut their wedding cake. Marriage of this popular Gables couple took place June 29th at the home of the bridegroom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. James, 422 Avenue Alcazar. Dr. Nevin H. Schaaf, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, performed the late afternoon ceremony. Mrs. James, who was the former Marion Baker, is visiting her mother in New York City and will be joined later by Mr. James. The couple are residing at 422 Alcazar. -Mileo photo

Mrs. Peene Is Tendered Farewell Fete

Mrs. David D. Peene, president of the Coral Gables Elementary Parent Teacher Association, was given a farewell luncheon yesterday at the Country Club of Coral Gables. Members of the executive board of the P. T. A. were the hosts. Mrs. Peene, who would have entered on her first year as presiding officer of this association, one of the largest elementary groups in the state, is moving with her family to Toronto; leaving Sunday. Mrs. George V. Crawford, Mrs. Lon Worth Crow, Jr., and Mrs. Paul H. Brinson were committee members in charge of arranging the luncheon. Because so many members are out of town, vacationing, only 12 of the 27 member board were present.

Miss Bennett Honors Cousin With Luncheon

Miss Ellen Bennett, daughter of Mr. J. J. Bennett, 2411 DeSoto Boulevard, honored her house guest and cousin, Miss Mary Lowery Byrne of Scatdale, Pa., with a luncheon yesterday at the Country Club of Coral Gables. Miss Byrne was the guest of the Bennetts at their cottage at Daytona Beach for the past month.

Miss Shirley Albury Visits Cousins In Nassau

Miss Shirley Albury, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Urban Albury, 605 S. W. 36th Court, is in Nassau, Bahamas, visiting her twin cousins, Miss Barbara and Miss Bren- [TEXT LOST] da Bowe. Shirley is a senior at Ponce de Leon High School and a member of the school band.

BY HELEN REYNOLDS, SOCIETY EDITOR "Come as your ambition" was the requirement as to attire included in the invitations Miss Pat McClintock issued to about 40 of the younger set for a get-together. The party will be held at Rancho "Jopateo" the country home of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Pepnock, parents of Miss McClintock, and will serve to introduce Miss Alice Jo Larson and her brother, Robert Larson, newcomers. Alice Jo and Bob are the daughter and son of the Rev. and Mrs. B. M. Larson, 1202 Genoa Street. Alice Jo will enter Ponce de Leon High School as a junior this fall and Bob will enter college at Merrivale, Tenn., to prepare for the ministry. Dr. Larson is the pastor of the new Gables Presbyterian Church. Mrs. James Carney, Jr., who will be matron of honor at the wedding of Miss Mary Elizabeth Orr and William Forrest Sistrunk, August 16, and Mr. Carney will entertain the bridal party at the rehearsal supper next Friday night. Among concluding parties for the bride-elect is the oriental luncheon, hosiery and handkerchief shower Mrs. S. A. Shikany will give Tuesday and the luncheon Miss Mathilda Corbly gave Wednesday of this week at her home, 2184 S. W. 9th Street. Miss Corbly will be a bridesmaid. Mrs. Walter Ernest will be bridematron. Sheila Carney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carney, will serve as flower girl. Honoring their talented guest, bride-elect Miss Jeane Williams, tiny hand painted place cards in the form of artists' palettes were favors at the luncheon given for her at the Country Club of Coral Gables Friday. Hostesses were Mrs. Nelson Tower and Mrs. Helen R. Hilson. A bridal theme centered the table at which places for 18 were favored. The honor guest was in cool gray print, her blonde tresses free of headgear, as were most of the guests, hinting that summer and August in Florida is no time to wear hats. Mrs. Tower complimented the honor guests' color scheme by wearing a yellow silk jersey, yellow accessories; Mrs. Hilson, blue with snakeskin bag and shoes. Luncheon-Show At Country Club To Broadcast Fashion Trends

By popular demand, the luncheon-style shows so greatly enjoyed by members of the Country Club and their guests last season will be resumed August 16 with the first show being dedicated to the college girl and the college girl-elect. A second show featuring local merchants' new fall displays will be given August 30, also a luncheon-revue, according to Gordon Taylor, manager of the country club. A bevy of college girls have been invited by Althea's to model for this first show, August 16, and Mrs. E. F. Benway, fashion coordinator at Althea's will give a running commentary describing the new fashion trends as they appear in singles or groups. "Majoring in College Fashions" is the name of the presentation. Suits and coats; "Date" dresses and formals; dinner frocks and hats will be shown. J. Baldi, Hairdresser on Miracle Mile, will do the coiffeurs. Those participating in the show include the Misses Sue Adams, Nancy Jackson, Barbara Brown, Nancy Leftholz, Harriet Quillan, Helen Stephens, Kathy Einfeldt, Marilyn Jones, Suzanne Hardin, Carol Gulliver. Joy Cobb, Marilyn Ward, Martha Bentz, Dottie Williams, Kitty Hardeman, Kakie Jones, Franklin Smith, Marjorie Gearheart, Nena Williams, Mary Nell Schoettle, Peggy Mayer and Joie Labnitz; also Ruth Sullivan, Ann Richey and Cornelia Jones.

Away Two Months

Mrs. Albert Russell of 3401 Granada Boulevard left this week Wednesday for a two months visit in Milwaukee, Chicago, Duluth and Minneapolis. Mrs. Russell is the mother of Mrs. J. Bernard Good of the above address, popular new member of the Coral Gables Junior Woman's Club.

Episcopal Youth To Attend Deanery At W. Palm Beach

Leaving by car Sunday morning, August 10, the Young Peoples Service League of St. Philip's Church, will attend all day conference of South Florida Episcopal Service Leagues at West Palm Beach. As guests of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church where the Deanery is to be held, dinner and entertainment will be furnished the visitors. The conferees will make plans for the forthcoming league project. Chaperons include: Mrs. Marjorie Watson, Mrs. J. B. Hardin and Mrs. H. McGee. The group will leave the church at 1 p. m., Sunday.

Visits Son

Mrs. Thomas Timberlake of Washington, D. C., who has been the guest of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James N. Ammen, 1251 Coral Way, will return to Washington via Eastern Airlines next week. Mrs. Timberlake motored down with her son from Washington.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward E. Beals To Reside Here Following Trip

On a honeymoon trip scheduled to embrace United States and Canada are Mr. and Mrs. Edward E. Beals whose marriage took place July 28th. The home of the bride's daughter, Mrs. H. H. Burkart, 1208 Avenue Astoria, was chosen as the scene for the simple home ceremony and vows of the couple were exchanged at 5 p. m. before relatives and friends of the couple, numbering 50. Dr. Harvey John Fritsch, pastor of the Country Club Christian church, conducted the ceremony and recorded played the wedding marches and a program of nuptial music including "I Love You Truly," "Oh, Promise Me" and "Because." The home was beautifully decorated in stephanotis blooms from Dr. and Mrs. M. P. DeBoe's gardens, and the same exotic blooms formed the bride's shoulder to waist corsage. The bride, the former Mrs. Mary Tyler, wore an off shade of blue crepe made street length with draped bodice and skirt. Her accessories were navy. Dr. and Mrs. Burkart were the attendants. Mrs. Burkart wore a crepe gown in cinnamon shade with matching accessories, orchid corsage. A reception followed. Following the six weeks trip Mr. and Mrs. Beals will return to Coral Gables to reside at 912 Avenue Messina. Mrs. Beals is formerly of Detroit, Mich., and has been a Coral Gables resident a year. Mr. Beals has lived here a number of years and is engaged in the real estate business.

Move To Gainesville

Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Kite-Powell and family have moved to Gainesville, where Mr. Kite-Powell will be associated in the new branch of the First Federal Savings and Loan Co., of Miami.

From Virginia

From Cape Charles, Va., Mr. and Mrs. John Gilmore are among newcomers to the Gables who have leased a home, residing at 621 Avenue Navarre. The Gilmores have a young daughter, Janie, just two.
