Panhellenic Scholarship Day Will Take Place Tomorrow

Hostesses for Panhellenic's annual scholarship day, to be held this year August 9th, will be Kappa Delta Sorority and the place will be the home of Dr. and Mrs. A. H. Weiland, 1104 Avenue Malaga. A board meeting at 2:30 p. m. will precede the general meeting and tea at 3 p. m. this meeting is scheduled in the year book as a morning coke party but due ot the fact that so many of the scholarship girls work, the Saturday afternoon date was decided. Panhellenic scholarship day honors those girls who are attending college on Panhellenic scholarships and the August date was chosen this year to enable the girls attending Florida State University as well as those attending the University of Miami to be present. Here-to-for, this meeting fell in the winter months. The entire program is planned around the scholarship theme. Miss Mary B. Merritt, dean of women at the University, historian for Panhellenic and formerly, for a number of years, scholarship chairman, will give a history of the scholarships this organization gives and tell highlights in the careers of some of the recipients of these awards. Miss Eloise Patterson, Spanish teacher at Ponce and Panhellenic scholarship chairman for 1947-48 will introduce the eight girls who are attending either the University of Miami or Florida State University on these scholarships and ask each girl to tell, if she cares to, something of her course of study.

(Continued from Page Seven) main dining room, games were played in the Granada Room. Miss Williams' marriage to Benjamin Sinkus will take place Aug. 29, in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. This week's travelers include Mr. and Mrs. J. Coleman Jones who, with their daughter, Betty Jones, and Barbara Bendinger, daughter of the F. H. Bendingers, 3410 Durango Street, are motoring to Washington, D. C., New York and Canada. They'll be away three weeks. The girls are seniors next fall at Ponce de Leon High School. . . . O. B. Sutton, who is leaving today by plane for Guatemala. There he will join Mrs. Sutton and their three children who have been visiting Mrs. Sutton's sister and brother-in-law, the Robert W. Gardners for six weeks. Mrs. Gardner is the former Peggy Linder, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Oscar Linder of 940 Avenue Giralda. Dr. Linder, incidentally, just returned from a visit with his daughters, 'south of the border' and reports delightful cool weather, high altitude and all those things, for which we sea levelers long. . . . The S. M. Greenes and daughter, Sylvia, who left Sunday for Cody, Wyo., for their annual visit to their favorite dude ranch. Mr. and Mrs. Greene hold open house nearly every Sunday during the season at their own ranch in South Miami, where on their many acres they have an outdoor rumpus room, stables for their horses and all the makings for informal good times, to which their friends testify. Returnees: Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Frutkoff, 3258 Riviera Drive, returned this week from a Florida jaunt which had as its theme, 'no destination, no plans.' On the west coast they found themselves heading, automobile and all, for Sanibel Island by ferry from Ft. Myers. They were guests at the local hotel there for three or four days and did what all tourists do, collected shells, and they are mighty proud of their collection. Incidentally the Frutkoffs recommend this trip, just half an hour from Ft. Myers, to the island, stories of which have been written and photographed in color for leading national magazines. Fan mail: a post card from subscriber Ann Matthews from Jackson, Mich., to the effect that she liked our story of the Junior Woman's Club "salute to the new longer hem line," and that she, too, hopes that "skirts don't go down too far." Thank you, Mrs. Matthews, we add your name to the growing list of short hem line lovers.
