By HELEN REYNOLDS, SOCIETY EDITOR Masquerade parties are always interesting but the old-fashioned, stately garbed guest wearing an armored suit and a mask is out definitely. Now the invited are asked to wear something depicting his 'native state,' his 'pet comic strip,' his 'ambition.' Novel were the invitations in the mail Wednesday to some 150 of the social contingent in Coral Gables. "Come as A Song" was the bid with the words plus the music forming the invitation instructions. Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Ario V. Pardee and Mr. and Mrs. William H. Mitchell, Jr., are the hosts. The party will take place Wednesday in the former Carl Adams estate, Miami Springs, now owned by the Mitchells. Coming as their favorite tunes, the three hostesses own up to "Sleepy-Time Gal"-Mrs. Evans; "I Walk Alone"-Mrs. Mitchell and "I Want To Get Married"-Mrs. Pardee. Hem Olsen and his orchestra will make merry with music for dancing. *** Mrs. M. B. Garris practically left a house party of guests in her Coral Gables home when she left recently for a visit with her married children. M. B. Garris, Jr., and Mrs. Garris were there and popping in just this week were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Garris of Charleston, S. C. Jack and Harriett had just had a visit from the senior Mrs. Garris, who was on her way to Memphis, Tenn., to visit her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Barbour Fisher, nee Dorothy Garris. MRS. GARRIS Catherine Reed who is visiting her parents, the Leslie H. Coombes at their Country Club Prado home, finds Coral Gables such a grown-up city, that she is going to find it hard to leave again. Mrs. Reed, the former Catharine Coombes, began doing things for the foreign legations long before the last world war. Some day she is going to tell her story. Suffice to say she returned to the United States from the Philippines where she was stationed with the British legation and that her return trip took ten weeks. She visited southern Philippine ports, Penang, Bombay and Genoa, en route home. Lieut-Commander and Mrs. L. P. Clephane write from the Wardman Park Hotel, Washington, D. C., where they are situated for the summer. They left Coral Gables the latter part of June and stayed the month of July in Atlantic City, N. J. From the ninth floor of their hotel window they reveled in the gray foggy days and the mists that often rolled in from the sea at that point. Luncheons and dinners for the Clephanes given by friends of long standing including members of the Army and Navy club, in town and the Chevy Chase and Army and Navy Country Clubs are diversions in Washington. Mrs. Fred Windridge, sister of Mrs. Clephane's who has often visited in the Gables is a resident of Washington and is frequently entertaining her sister and Commander Clephane in her home, "a lovely place high above the city of Washington." The Clephanes plan to return about the middle of September. News of the J. H. Mayhews from Excelsior, Minn., tells us that they recently entertained Sir Patrick and Lady Hamilton of England for three weeks at the Mayhew country home on Minnetonka Lake. The Mayhews formerly lived at 1212 South Greenway Drive; plan to return for the season. Mrs. Frank Kerdyke left Tuesday via the "Constellation" for New York City. After a day in Gotham, Mrs. (Please turn to Page Eight)

26 COLLEGE GIRLS TO MODEL Nancy Lefholz In Fashion's Show

"NANCY" ROBERT BINNER PHOTO With pencil poised, pretty Nancy Lefholz knows she is correctly garbed for classes at Florida State University, where she will enter her junior year come September. Nancy will be one among 26 girls of the college set modeling what's what on campus - for teas, for formals as well as class wear, tomorrow at the Country Club of Coral Gables. The fashion show sponsored by Althea's Miracle Mile shop, will take place tomorrow at luncheon and is one in a series of the very popular luncheon-fashion shows at the club. Thru the Frame Highlighting the show will be the running commentary on the new clothes to be modeled by the college girls by Euvera Benway, fashion coordinator at Althea's. Using their theme that every dress is a picture, the girls will model the clothes stepping through a huge Baroque frame-a capitalized idea, exclusive with Althea's. "Majoring in College Fashions," is the theme. Cy Washburn and his stringed trio will play during the showing.
