By HELEN REYNOLDS, SOCIETY EDITOR Double celebration and gala event will be the opening next Wednesday of the Ring Theatre, Coral Gables swank playhouse atop the University of Miami's old main building. Ushering in its winter season with J. W. Priestly's "Dangerous Corners", the Ring Theatre became a sensation and a must on civic and cultural club calendars following the initial opener "Claudia" a year ago. Under the direction of Fred Koch Jr., head of the Drama Department for the University, the venture proved so salable a guess for its projectors that the fame of the little theatre grew by leaps and bounds. More than 1,000 people witnessed last seasons 265 productions. The "ring" seats just 100. This year Dr. Koch tells us that in response to letters mailed to clubs and civic groups announcing the opening of the seat sale (by groups) on Sept. 15, the entire season was sold out in one and a quarter hours and to the rest of the inquiries - "So Sorry". First nighters for the opening show and birthday celebration, will as last year, be composed of the trustees. deans and department heads of the University and their wives; the mayors of Miami Beach, Miami, Coral Gables and South Miami, their wives and newspaper folk. * * * Departing from the usual golf luncheons, the Riviera Country Club will stage a fashion show and luncheon next Tuesday at the new clubhouse. Phyllis Carr co-ordinator for several New York manufacturers showing 1948 Sports wear and for classics and afternoon frocks for Alan Abbess will direct the show. Mrs. Frank Newman will be commentator. Members of the club will model. They include: Mrs. Robert McGahey, Mrs. Elliot Dunwoody, Mrs. Denzil Liegerot, Mrs. A. B.
