Presidents' Receptions to Mark Club Openings

Auxiliary's Big Fiesta Is Tomorrow | Woman's Group To Auction Gifts

Coral Gables Lions Auxiliary members are all set for their first big party Saturday night at the Venetian Pools, "A Night in Monte Carlo," is the name they have given to this fiesta and the Venetian setting of the pools will make a perfect background for the many booths they have created for the pastime of their patrons. Mrs. John Tomson, president and Mrs. Donald Peck, general chairman, are being aided by a committee composed of auxiliary members: Mrs. Robert A. McVoy, Mrs. A. L. Lancaster, Mrs. William Ussery, Mrs. Clyde Higgins, Mrs. C. Dana Woodman, Mrs. R. A. Rosasco and Mrs. Kenneth Cole. Coral Gables merchants have been most generous in providing some 40 most beautiful gifts which will be auctioned off during the evening providing excitement and monies for the auxiliary's welfare project the aid for dependent children department of the State Welfare Agency. Their gifts will be earmarked for shoes for the needy children.

MISS SMITH, pretty bride-elect of Robert Emmett Ahearn, Jr., wears a necklace of pure gold made from the precious metal from the mines in Nicaragua to which her fiance flies almost daily. -Lloyd LeMan photo | Of wide social interest here as well as in Central America is the announcement of the betrothal of Miss Dorothy Theresa Smith and Robert Emmett Ahearn Jr., of Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua, which is being made today by her parents, Captain and Mrs. George W. Snow of 2522 Madrid Street. The bride-elect attended the Elementary school and was graduated from Ponce de Leon High school. She attended Florida State College for Women, Tallahassee, for three years. Her fiance, born in British Honduras, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Emmett Ahearn of Puerto Cabezas. He attended schools in the States and was graduated from St. Stanislaus College, Bay St. Louis Mississippi. Formal announcement of the engagement was made in Puerto Cabeza on September 27th at a cocktail party the senior Mr. and Mrs. Ahearn gave for 75 guests and during a visit Miss Smith made to their home. Mr. Ahearn Jr., is a captain for Taca Airways and is stationed in Nicaragua. Romance of the couple began when they met at the home of their mutual friends, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Barclay Jr., of Coral Gables while the airways captain was on vacation last July. Date of the marriage has been set for December 20 and will take place at the Church of the Little Flower.
