GABLESGRAMS
HELEN REYNOLDS, SOCIETY EDITOR Fashion Theatre will present its first show, "A Day On the Campus" at 4 p. m. Monday through Wednesday at the Ring Theatre thereby launching something entirely new in fashion style shows. Planned and to be executed by Robert Eades of the Miami School of Modeling, professional models will, in pantomime, unfold the life of the perfectly clad coed from the time she rises in the morning until bedtime. As the lights come on, an alarm clock will be heard ringing. Four girls will be in bed and four more will be coming in from various entrances bearing tooth brushes and towels, wearing fashions latest in pajamas and bath robes. From there the scenes shift to gym, classroom, afternoon teas, "dates" and evening parties. Four boys will compliment the scenes wearing the right thing from the University Men's Shop. Minna Lee and Rodi's from the "Mile" will dress the models. How much cost? 50 cents. Verona Halifax, young daughter of the John Halifaxes, 3501 Avenue Durango, will be hostess at a costumed Hollowe'en party at 3 o'clock Friday, October 24th. Incidentally it's Verona's birthday. Miss Carolyn Baker Butler, bride-elect of Frederick Lawrence Burki is dating her book with parties and in between time she is busy putting in last things for her new home, a duplex, practically in the finishing stages of building. Saturday at 1 p. m. at the Palm Tea Room, Miami Beach, Mrs. Norwood Walker will entertain 12 for luncheon honoring Miss Butler. Miniature bride and groom and attendants made in "eggshells" will decorate the table for the miscellaneous shower Mrs. Raymond W. Butler, Sr., Carolyn's aunt. and her daughter, Patricia, will give Tuesday for 20 guests. Patricia and her sister, Jeannine Butler, now a freshman at Florida State University, will be bridesmaids for their cousin. Jeannine will fly down from Tallahassee on Thursday prior to the wedding which takes place November 1 at St. Stephens Episcopal church. When Malotte Houser, daughter of Mrs. M. Harris Houser, 1005 Avenue Mariana, and senior student at Stevens College, Columbia, Mo., attended the recent annual Veiled Prophet's Ball in St. Louis, it was like going home, for most of her paternal kinsfolk live in St. Louis and would be guests at the party. Admittance to the ball is by invitation only and Malotte, granddaughter of the late Daniel Malotte Houser, famed politician and newspaper publisher of St. Louis, was the guest of her aunt, Mrs. Sears Lehmann, while attending the festivities, which officially opens the St. Louis social season. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Orr, 23 Alhambra Plaza, left yesterday via the "Constellation" for Chicago, Ill., where they will combine a business trip for Mr. Orr plus a vacation. Seeing old shows and some bank-up national radio shows for which Mrs. Orr has tickets are some anticipated pleasures. Mrs. Orr will visit relatives in Jacksonville en route home the last of the month. Christening services were held Sunday, October 5th, at the Church of the Little Flower for John Laurence Roberts, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard B. Roberts, 3rd. John Laurence, named for his maternal grandfather is the third child and second son of Mr. and Mrs. Roberts. He was born September 5th and is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Roberts, Jr. of 717 Alhambra Circle. Christened the same day was Benjamin Carpenter La Pointe the 3rd, infant son who was born September 20th of Mr. and Mrs. B. C. La Pointe, Jr. Following the services a dinner for the family was held at the senior Mr. and Mrs. La Pointe's home, 700 Alhambra Circle. The baby's maternal grandmother, Mrs. Emma Dunmyer of Birmingham, Ala., was a guest and will be the guest of her son-in-law anddaughter at their home, 114 Avenue Antilla for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fowler used every type of travel this summer on their jaunt North and West, but "submarine" which they could have used at home last week at their home, 5911 Michelangelo Street, it was a boat or wade through the water to reach the house, miraculously dry throughout. The Fowlers spent two months in LaJolla, Calif., visited Canadian, New Orleans, Niagara Falls, Boston, traveling by plane, train and car. Peggy Gordon, who writes our newsletter from Schenley Park tells me that the other day the family cat got caught in the victrola, and she is sure it must have been a prank of the hurricane. Speaking of water Mrs. Harry C. Higgins, 908 Avenue Andres put two pieces of bread to toast in her electric toast master soon after the hurricane, and a coral snake about ten inches long crawled out.

Along with thousands of others we too feel the effects of the hurricane. Our stock was only mildly damaged by wind and rain and there are wonderful bargains in the offing at a reduction of 20%. It occurred to us at the same time that we might be contributing our little bit in an attempt to halt the spiral of inflationary prices.
