CORAL GABLES COUNTRY CLUBBER
By GORDON TAYLOR Of interest to the boating and sailing committee will be the request from a Captain Thompson who called the other day and asked for mooring space for his yacht in front of the club; and wanted to know what our dockage fees were. After a quick conference with the golf committee, it was decided that water hazards are desirable and should not be cluttered up with marine jalopies. Chairman Gorman felt that if you could not drive four hundred yards to the greens it would add mystery and dampness to the blind bogeys. Since the surface of the tennis courts is now acting as fill for the 5th fairway, Ike Macy feels that hurdle-hopping exposed baselines is good exercise. Marge Gowan says: "For once we tennis players have it all over the golfers." The new members to the club are probably already acquainted with tropical Florida, so plans are now made to more quickly acquaint them with old members of the club. The first Wednesday night of each month will see a table set aside for them in a position of honor. Each new member will receive a special invitation to be on hand that night and we'll see if they can't make new friends on the spot. Mrs. Checker Norman will be the chairman of this committee, or official hostess to the new members. When that first Wednesday night comes step right up and say hello, will you? Great plans are in the making for new and super fashion shows, Chairman Billie Harting tells me. Her committee will meet today with some of the merchants and don't be surprised if extra special plans aren't a result. On this committee will be Helen Holley, Eunice Halifax, Willa Robinson, Virginia Woodward, Mary Moore, Jacqueline Pierce and Marge Gebhart. Director Norman Buchan and his staff of our club firmament are working mighty hard on the next play, OUTWARD BOUND. Substituting for Norman was Betty Arnold, co-director, the other night when I saw the cast going through their paces. Opening night, November 3rd, is not far away so you "first-nighters" better start making plans. Cy Washburn plans a vacation in New York shortly after his next concert, October 28th. Beginning with the same concert, all Philharmonic devotees will be required to pay $1.20 admission, including members of the country club. These concerts have reflected great credit on the Club and the community and I am sure you members will give them your continued support. Mrs. Leo Mahan and her committee are planning great things for the Halloween Party. This traditional club party will be Wednesday, October 29th. Everywhere I turn there are whispered plans for spooooooook costumes. Got yours? Mrs. Louise Mitchell and her committee are planning a costume party for our junior members between the ages of 9 to 13 Friday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m., Oct. 31st. On the committee will be Mrs. Byron Sperow, Mrs. Dolores Rohe, Mrs. George Rummil, Mrs. W. B. Inman, Jr., Mrs. Allen Metts, Mrs. T. Ralph Coard and Mrs. William I. Allen. The bridge rally-buffet was a great success. It was a swell gang having a swell time. The winner of the bridge group that met Tuesday October 7th was Mrs. Charles Weber while the Contract winner Thursday night, October 8th was Mrs. Katherine Rhoads. The winners of the Duplicate groups were Mrs. Katherine Rhoads and Mrs. J. J. Troup on Thursday, October 9th, and Mrs. John O'Day and Mrs. Annabell Wilson (North and South) and Mrs. Thomas Tawes (East and West). Club Events Friday, Oct. 17 — Rotary Club Luncheon 12:00 p.m., Civic Room. Contract Bridge 8 p.m., Card Room; Invitational Lunch to Milliners 12 p.m., Red Room. Saturday, Oct. 18 — Club Dance 9 to 1 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20 — Duplicate Bridge 8 p.m., Card Room. VICTOR MATURE, COLEEN GRAY, AND BRIAN DONLEVY make up the trio that provides the tense moments in "Kiss of Death", which Walter Winchell described as having been "written with a machine gun." The thriller will be at the Grove Theatre Saturday at 9:30 PM and Sunday and Monday, Oct. 18-20.

Pilfering of Cars Brings Police Warning
Safety Director William G. Kimbrough issued a warning to Gables residents to refrain from leaving valuables in parked cars, today, as police reported theft of money and clothing valued at $212 from an automobile parked in the rear of the Gables Theatre. The car was owned by Mrs. M. E. Kabool, 3931 NW 31st Street and the clothing by Charles H. Knost, 528 Avenue Alcazar. Mrs. Kabool also reported a pocketbook containing $11 missing.
