Loans Drop Here In 2 of 3 Banks
Two of the Gables' three banks showed a substantial decline in their loan volume-key to profits-for 1961 compared to 1960. The third banking institution increased its loans over the previous year and nearly doubled the state average among 321 commercial banks. Showing a drop in loans were Coral Gables First National Bank and Florida National Bank. The increase came at City National Bank of Coral Gables. At First National, loans were down from $15.8 million to $12.7 million, a drop of 19.8% Asked about the decrease, President Lundeen said; "There has been a national decline in installment lending and this is reflected in our figures. For the past year, our other loans-commercial, what we call 'discounts' and so forth-were constant. "In the coming year we look for a nice steady growth in installment lending and all other portions of our loan portfolio." Florida National's decline was slightly less in percentage points, 17.2%, on a drop from $6.1 million to $5 million. City National's increase was from $5.5 million to $6.1 million, a percentage gain of 11.7%. The state average increase was 6.8%. In deposits, the banks looked like this comparing 1960 and 1961: City National - up 20.2%, from $11.6 million to $13.9 million. CG First National - Up 4.9%, from $37.4 million to $39.2 million. Florida National - Up 0.4%, from $19.9 million to $20.06 million. The state average in deposits increase was 7.6%. This is against the national figure of just above 4%.
