53 Units Planned Sunrise Apartments Nixed
Sunrise Harbour developer Emil S. Gould ran into more opposition on his plan to launch a four-story apartment building in that area. The City Commission turned it down Monday. The apartment, a 53-unit building with 1,550 square foot three, two and a few one-bedroom dwellings was planned on Lots 2 to 5 in Block 2 which faces a finger of the waterway. It has been proposed originally to the Commission back in June, but action was deferred pending the Rader Associates report on high rise buildings. Gould, who owns the land, was attempting to get approval to go one more story than permitted for a prospective buyer, he said. The Sunrise Harbour Association opposes the plan on the principal ground that it would create congestion. Still to be developed in Sunrise Harbour are two large areas, one zoned for business and another for multiple family apartments. These lie west of the proposed apartment along the Coral Gables Waterway.
Rovin Apartments Are Turned Down
The City Commission has turned thumbs down on developer Sol Rovin's plan to build 11 apartments containing 150 units at his Hammock Oaks Subdivision. The area has been zoned originally for a Country Club but the plan went askew after public reaction killed a plan to build a private golf course, mostly in neighboring Matheson Hammock Park. Commissioners voted 4-0, with Mayor Robert L. Searle absent from that portion of the meeting, to deny Rovin's request. Rovin will now have to come with still another plan for development of the 10-acre tract.

You Can Bus It to Hialeah
Coral Gables has added a special bus to Hialeah Race Track for the duration of the meet. It will leave the Gables Bus Terminal at 12:30 p.m. daily. The return trip leaves Hialeah after the last race. Fare is 50c each way. Lee Davis, Coral Gables transportation director, reports that this added Hialeah service is the result of the popular approval which greeted the special service to Tropical Park during its season.
