HEALTH AND A FALL
By Dr. Melvin P. Deutsch An accident need not be severe to be followed by dire results. Falls or jars sometimes slight which at the time are passed unnoticed are responsible for nerve impingement, the effects of which are serious indeed. That is an important thing to remember in this day when automobile and other accidents are so common. One need not be cut or bruised, or have broken bones in order for an accident to have been serious. If one or more segments of the spine are displaced sufficiently to produce pressure on nerve trunks the tissues supplied by these nerve trunks cannot function normally. If the pressure is slight and if the surrounding tissues are uninjured, nature often automatically corrects these spinal abnormalities. If, however, this displacement is not automatically corrected, it means that a slow process of tissue depletion begins. This may involve the digestive tract, kidneys, heart or other vital organs. So long as the nerve pressure persists, the illness will continue. That is why the precaution of seeking a Chiropractor should be taken following falls and accidents. DR. MELVIN D. Our People Carry Friendship To Costa Rica in Recent Trip
Mayor Robert L. Searle returned Sunday night from a whirlwind four-day trip to Costa Rica with a group of 21 physicians and dentists. Searle came back convinced that more can be done between lower levels of government than has been done by the Federal government in promoting understanding and progress in Latin America. The recommendation is to be conveyed to Sen. George Smathers and Rep. Dante Fascell. "Those people are just hungry for friendship with the United States," Searle reported to the Commission. Searle said he met with several groups of leaders and was impressed with their sincerity. These people are perplexed at our help to Communist and other unfriendly countries, the mayor said, and wonder why we raise and lower their sugar quotas as if trying to ruin their economy. While other Latin countries have few land owners, the mayor said, Costa Rica has 33,000 independent farmers who grow sugar cane. The trip was at private expense. While Searle was busy discussing politics and economics with Costa Rican leaders, the doctors and dentists branched out to confer with members of their own professions in that country. They presented $8,000 worth of drugs donated by U.S. pharmaceutical firms. The physicians were: Drs. E. W. Cullipher, H. L. Pearson, Thomas D. J. Baker, M. A. Gonzales; M. David Sims; Robert F. Dickey, Ken-nety Whitmer, Leon Mims and H. M. Nogueiras. Dentists who went were Drs. Herman Anderson, Ketthe Wottich, Herman Briggle, William Briggle, David Blaser, O. D. Pacetti, Charle Magrill, Richard Putman, Ben Wilkerson, Al Aker, L. L. Lund and Robert L. Cherry, who arranged the trip.
