News Of The PTA Christmas Provides School Programs

By EUNICE TALL The David Fairchild Elementary School holiday program was last Thursday, 7:30 p.m., in the school cafetorium. Children representing all grades in the school participated in showing "The Merry Years of Christmas," a play written by; Phyllis McGinley. Songs and skits showing different types of Christmases through the years was enjoyed by all. Directors of the production were Mrs. Victoria Ballard, music instructor, and Mrs. Marie Crozier, art consultant. A short business meeting was held prior to the Christmas program. Perrine Elementary Strictly entertainment is in store for the members of Perrine Elementary School PTA when they attend the school's Christmas program, Tuesday at 8 in the cafetorium. Children in Mr. David Felton's [?] grade class and in Mrs. G[?]aldine McClure's sixth grade class will entertain with a skit entitled "All's Well That Ends Well." The skit was written by Perrine Elementary sixth grade student Gloria Jean Ivey. Olympia Heights Elementary The theme for Olympia Heights Elementary School PTA meeting Tuesday was "Take Time To Teach Your Child Bicycle Safety." Guest speaker for the meeting was Officer Harold Griffin from Metro Safety Department. A Walt Disney color film entitled "Bicycle Clown" was viewed by the membership. Later in the evening the membership was lead in singing Christmas Carols by Mr. Richard Bullman, music director. Refreshments were served. The program for the PTA meeting of Fairlawn Elementary School will consist of a skit of a child's dream of Christmas. The program was enacted by the second, third and fourth grade students in the school Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., in the cafetorium. Printed information will be distributed to the members so that a formal business meeting will not be necessary. Coral Terrace Elementary A Christmas show entitled "Happy Holidays" was presented Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., to the membership of Coral Terrace Elementary School. "Actors" and "actresses" was made up of first and second grade students in the school. Directors of the production are Mrs. Anita Taylor, chairman of PTA program committee, and Miss Jill Philbrick, first grade teacher.

South Miami Building Drops

South Miami October building permits valuations fell $104,333 below a similar 1959 period, totaling $69,346, one of the lowest figures in five years. Included in the permits was a petition for only one residence, to be constructed by C. E. Pope, at 6841 Sunset Dr. Other permits were granted for $19,000 in alterations to Stevens Market, 6600 Red Road; a $3000 addition for C. Nagel, at 7901 SW 58th Ave., and a $4500 addition for C. Rittkaled at 5858 SW 80th St. There were a total of 45 permits granted during the month ranging from remodelings and pavings to patios and signs.

South Miami Yule Windows To Be Judged

South Miami merchants have an opportunity to win one of nine awards in the District Chamber of Commerce-sponsored store decoration contest which will be judged next week. According to H. W. MacDonald, chamber manager, three prizes in three categories are open to all merchants whether an entry blank is submitted in the contest or not. The three categories are windows professionally decorated, windows not professionally decorated and store fronts decorated professionally or not. There will be a first, second and third prize in each category. "We hope to make this the best decorated city in the county," MacDonald said. The windows will be judged between Dec. 19 and Christmas, with the winners announced from the district Chamber of Commerce. Judges will be members of South Miami civic clubs. The store front decoration category is sponsored by the Chamber's Business and Professional Division, with the other two categories sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
