CAMPFIRE CEREMONIES at the Camporee held by Dade County Girl Scouts last weekend at Homestead Air Base. The fires are being laid for a Council-wide ceremony to celebrate international fellowship. Fire-building Girl Scouts are (front) Dorcas R. Hardy, Mariner Troop 160 and Linda Thornton, Troop 489, both in the Poinciana District of Coral Gables. Our Girl Scouts

Girl Scout Troops from the local area were among the top-prize winners at the Girl Scout Camporee held at Homestead Air Base Saturday and Sunday. The winning troops were chosen from nearly 100 Dade County units in arts, crafts and camping skill competition. Blue ribbon winners were, Troops 348 and 260 of the Gables Cassia District; Troop 525, S.W. Poinciana District; Troops 8, 131, and 445, S.W. Mahoe District. Red ribbon winners were, Troops 35 and 490, Gables Cassia District; Troops 711 and 437, S.W. Miami Poinciana District; Troops 488, 156, and 468, S.W. Miami Mahoe District. White ribbon winners were, Troop 12, Gables Cassia District and Troop 873, S.W. Miami Poinciana District. The two day Camporee, sponsored by the Dade County Girl Scout Council, was the largest gathering of Girl Scouts ever held by one council in the United States and brought together more than 1,000 girls from all parts of the county. Mrs. Charles Finkelstein, of 815 Catalonia Ave., and president of the Council, made the awards in a flag ceremony that spotlighted the theme of "The Heritage Years."

Southwest Band To Visit Nassau

The Southwest Miami High School Orchestra is scheduled to leave April 28 for a good will tour of Nassau. Under the direction of Band Director Philip Fink, the group will leave by ship and return May 1. The orchestra, which will present concerts for both children and adults Saturday afternoon and evening, was invited to make the appearance by the Friends of the Bahamas Music Club through the Board of Public Instruction.

Mrs. Yessner To Be Installed

Mrs. Bernard Yessner, 318 Aledo Ave., will be installed president of the Sunset Division, of the National Council of Jewish Women, Wednesday evening, May 10, at the Biscayne Terrace Hotel. Mrs. Sidney Lewis, president of the Greater Miami Section, of the NCJW, will be the installing officer.

Coming Saturday Hungry? Make Plans For Pancake Day

Tamiami Kiwanis Club will hold its fourth annual Pancake Day Saturday at Sylvania Heights Elementary School Cafeteria in West Miami. The meal will consist of fruit juice, sausage, milk or coffee and all the pancakes a person can eat. Price is $1 for adults and 50 cents for children to 12 years old. Proceeds go to the Kiwanis underprivileged children fund. Starting time is 7 a.m. Saturday. The event will run until 7 p.m. Prizes will be awarded during the day.
