Buzzes From Bowling
By LEE McNEELY Correspondent The summer season is coming to a close, and with it comes the end of the Summer League. The scores have been hotter than the temperature, especially in the Heart Fund League. They make 600 look so easy, we've had 298-287-279, and even the big four split fell. LEN SPRINGMEYER, bowling in the Heart Fund League, made the double pinochle as pretty as you please. Wednesday night in the Men's Singles, Ed Tomerlin rolled his first set over 700, a 706 (195-233-278). You may remember we predicted this not too long ago. Ralph Soulby, bowling in the same league put together four games for an 875 set with two of his games at 238 and 256. There were three others in that league over 800. Our winter leagues are signing up, the Inter-Civic Group of Coral Gables, South Miami and Perrine had their meeting last week. They will be bowling on Thursday nights at 7 o'clock, along the Ladies All Star League. Labor Day Weekend, Bowl-O-Mat will hold its fourth annual Labor Day Tournament. Full details will be covered in the next issue, but keep the date in mind. In the South Dixie Ladies Petersen Point Singles, two of the shining stars had their first 600's. Delores Lee bowled two big 200's. Lil duBrucq bowled a 639, and she is a newcomer to the art of kegling. Going into the last night, the leaders are: Class A—Connie Anderson; Class B - Lil duBrucq; and Class C — Ann Douglas. Speaking of leagues that have already signed up, the Metro Mixed will be facing the foul lines with 12 teams this coming season. The Dixiecrats will again be bowling at 7 p.m. on Monday. Tuesday nights will find the Elks sinking their teeth into the maples, also one of the best men's handicap leagues in Florida, The Bay Glades. The Mortgage Bankers have reserved their usual spot on Wednesday night along with McArthur Dairy and Holsum Bakery.
