Dr. Stenning Is Named

An authority on power and propulsion, Dr. Alan H. Stenning, has been appointed chairman of the University of Miami department of mechanical engineering. Formerly on the faculty of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and technical director of an engineering consultant firm, Dr. Stenning replaces Prof. C. E. Anderson who has asked to return to teaching. Dr. Stenning was born in London, and received his bachelor of science degree at Glasgow University, Scotland. He came to the U.S. in 1950 with a Fulbright Travel Award to study at M.I.T., where he received his master's degree in 1951 and doctor of science in fluid mechanics in 1955. A naturalized U.S. citizen, Dr. Stenning lives with his wife, Faith, and son, Ian, 4 at 4321 Anderson, Coral Gables.

$8,830 Spent For Art

An $8,830 permit has been issued to the Dade County Board of Public Instruction for an addition to the art room at Coral Gables High School and a new covered walkway. General contractor is Franklin C. Tarbox. Architect is Richard L. Lemon.

CORAL WAY STATION

A new gas station is planned at 6800 Coral Way by the Ownes Oil Co., of Miami. The oil firm applied for the permit from the county Aug. 10. A one-story CBS building is planned.

They Met...after 23 Years

Twenty-three years ago, four Ponce de Leon High School football players who were members of the Ching Tang Club went off to the University of Florida together. There they were roommates and members of the same social fraternity, Beta Theta Pi. From Florida, it was out into the world to make a living. This past weekend, the four men had a reunion at a Marathon motel, their first in 23 years. They were Scott Linder, Jack Kane, Don Dutcher and Ted Myers Jr. Scott, a Florida business man with headquarters in Lakeland, is the son of Mrs. Oscar Linder of 530 Santander Ave., and a brother of Judge Ruth Sutton, 513 San Esteban Ave. Jack Kane, son of Mrs. Rodney Miller, of 3979 Miller Dr., Coral Gables, resides in Orlando. Ted Myers Jr., now of Atlantic City, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Myers of 418 Almeria Ave. Don Dutcher, a South Miami business man, is the son of Mrs. Ellen Cutler of South Miami and a brother of Mrs. Wendall Thagard of Coral Gables. He is a past president of the South Miami Rotary Club, on the board of governors of the South Miami Hospital and is president of Rutherford Products Co., in S.M.

Food Firm Picked by U. of Miami

The University of Miami has engaged Slater Food Service Management to handle its food service operations starting Sept. 1, according to President Jay F. W. Pearson. Slater will serve both as management of the present cafeteria and as functional planning consultant when food service facilities are expanded by a major addition to the Student Union to be under way some time next spring. "We anticipate that with the expansion of the Student Union which will provide many more student services than our present facilities can offer, thousands more of our students than heretofore will remain on campus for leisure time recreation," Dr. Pearson said. "To handle food service needs arising then, we realized the need for professional management services and are delighted that the Slater people will be working with us." Founded as a professional food service organization in 1926, Slater presently serves 140 schools, colleges and universities as well as provides restaurant services for industry, government and hospitals across the country.

Donut Addition Will Cost $20,000

Dunkin Donuts of America is planning a new $20,000 addition to its store at 1138 South Dixie Hwy. The Massachusetts donut firm has received a state permit for the addition, designed by architect Melvin Grossman. Andrew Cambrigue is the general contractor and Gerard Lowe the mechanical and electrical engineer.

A state permit has been issued for an 18-unit apartment at 6351 SW 80th St., South Miami. The $70,000, two-story apartment designed by William M. Freidman.
