Your Number Is Up, And 'Mr. Digit's' Got It!

"Mr. Digit and the Battle of Bubbling Brook," a 161⁄2-minute motion picture about the new look in telephone numbers, is available to area clubs, schools and community organizations. The movie explores the telephone company's plan to adopt a nationwide dialing system using all numbers instead of a combination of letters and numbers. Instead of MU 3-2368, it'll be 683-2368 will All-Number Calling, according to Bill Gale, manager for Southern Bell here. He said this plan will also provide enough telephone numbers for more telephones in the future. The 16mm film can be borrowed through the telephone business office 250 Alhambra Cir., Coral Gables. The technicolor movie stars Peg Lynch and Alan Bunce, better known on radio and television as "Ethel and Albert." Part of the film's story is told in cartoon animation, featuring a character, Mr. Digit, and "numbers man" from the telephone company. The film describes the number change as a result of the growth of the country and its communications facilities. It also discusses some expected communications services of the future, including the dialing of overseas telephone numbers.
