Palmetto High Gets Thespians

By EUNICE TALL Correspondent The drama department of Palmetto High School says 11 students have established a chapter of the Thespians Honor Society. The national Thespians Society is an educational honor and service organization to establish and advance standards of excellence in all phases of dramatic arts and to create interest in dramatic arts among boys and girls in high schools. These 11 students were officially inducted into the society Dec. 8 at Southwest High School during the countys wide Thespians Conference. Announced as Thespians were Cathy Copley, Diane Ward, Norma Tanner, Bill Coleman, George Harmon, Judy Ferrer, Sue Kelly, Ann Finney, Roberta Cowley, Daurin Hollingsworth and Vida Hull. Miss M. Trbovitch, drama teacher, will sponsor the Palmetto chapter. Tomorrow night (Friday) will officially open the Palmetto basketball season when the Panthers meet Miami High at 8 p.m. in the Miami High gymnasium. Returning Panther lettermen are Jeff Wright, Bruce Cost, and Dennis Richie. Other varsity players are Joe Willson, Mike Crissey, Pete Sibley, John Cork, Paul Warner, John Stankrauff, Mike Jarrard, Pete Schaefer, Harvey Neiman, Dave Mills, and John Carlock. Members of the Future Homemakers of America recently elected officers. They are Libby Trest, president; Noreen Bevilacqua, vice president; Cathy Shawan, secretary; and Wendy Stevens, treasurer. Providing needy families with food baskets at Christmas is one of the club projects. Key Club of Palmetto wishes to announce that their sponsors for the coming year are Cathy Copley and Brenda Acton. Both girls are outstanding Palmetto students.
