By Helen Reynolds Mr. and Mrs. Alvin L. (Pete) and Mary Peterson write from Jamaica, West Indies, that they were saying farewell to the island for this year - "they visit only in the summer [here], but that on Dec. 2, they watched the traditional Santa Claus parade through town. Santa was flown in from Montego Bay. The Petersons' visited their old friends, the Dudley MacMillans and the Harold Brahams who reside in Belmont Heights, high in the Blue Mountains. * * * Pvt. Donald C. Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Fulton, 12201 SW 188th St., South Miami, recently completed eight weeks of advanced individual training at the U.S. Army Air Defense Training Center, Fort Bliss, Tex., as a missile crewman. Adams who is 19, entered the Army last July and completed his basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. * * * Capt. Edw. J. Lanigan, USN (Ret.), and Mrs. Lanigan, 12610 SW 64th Ave., members of the Coral Harbour Yacht Club, BWI, are planning to fly to the island during the Christmas holidays. * * * William T. Penny Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. William Penny, 6400 SW 38th St., has a 30-day leave from the Air Force after which he leaves for France. Young Penny, a 3rd class airman, took his basic training at Lackland, Texas. He is a graduate of Coral Gables High School where he took a first and a second place in the industrial arts exhibit. His ambition is to work in landscaping. * * * Six-year-old John Blackmon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Blackmon, 3900 SW 60th Ct., is convalescing at home following a delicate heart operation on a birth defect. John is a first grader at David Fairchild School. His daddy is vice president for radio station WVCG.

Sears Helps Santa

Newsweek Magazine for Dec. 11 featured Sears and Roebuck stores as Santa's biggest helper and included a picture of the Coral Gables branch store. The novelty about the Gables' Sears is that the shoppers are in shorts, with temperature in the 80's, yet "Christmas business is good."

A new steak and chop restaurant is planned at SW 58th Court and SW 73rd St. in South Miami by Mrs. Marian Lee. James S. Stewart will be the operator. The one-story, air conditioned building was designed by James E. Ferguson Jr. The opening is scheduled for sometime in March.
