WEST of the City Limits

with Ron Levitt CORAL WAY EXTENSION: Quietly and almost unnoticed, workers and trucks have been traveling westward on Coral Way each morning. And when they come to the current end of Coral Way — they keep going. The activity there means that Coral Way is being extended about 15 blocks — to around 127th Avenue. And the tension may go further west than that. One home developer has some seven model homes nearly completed at what will be Coral Way and 132nd Ave. Right now, you can't get any where near the development unless you go to the end of Bird Road and then travel north on an old dirt trail. But apparently the builders must have keen information that Coral Way will be extended even beyond the 127th Avenue point if they're already building there. There also has been some talk that Bird Road will be extended further west beyond its current extremity in the Village Green area. Just west of Village Green, Bird Road becomes a dirt trail — until recently only used by the Florida Power and Light crews. But in the past couple of months, several private residences have started construction in what looks like a "pioneer area" far west on Bird Road. Anyway, some of these builders must know something that hasn't been previously ballyhooed to the public. It looks like both Coral Way and Bird Road are going to be extended westward. MISCELLANEOUS MEMOS: New Lutheran church is under construction at Coral Way and 102nd Ave. . . . WESTBROOKE COUNTRY CLUB, about 99 and 44-100ths per cent completed at 8500 On The Trail, will probably premiere in mid-January with an open house tour invitation going out to some 20-thousand Southwest residents . . . CORAL WAY JEWISH CENTER Little Theater Group is producing an original musical play. The original book is by Julia Weinstein while Paula Harris is doing the lyrics . . . (The public library at Flagler Street and 50th Avenue is a City of Miami-operated institution. But it is drawing hundreds of residents of the suburban Southwest who are beyond the city limits. Dade residents who do not live within Miami proper must pay a $4 a year charge to use the library. It's free to residents within the city limits. A four - night Civil Defense Course — with special emphasis on fallout shelters — planned for after the first of the year. Site of the lectures will be the Coral Way Jewish Center, 16th Ave. and Galloway Road . . . ST. MARK'S LUTHERAN CHURCH at Lejeune Road and Bird will present its fifth annual "Adoration of the King" pageant at 7 p.m., Dec. 17 . . . One of the Southwest's major after hour spots had an embarrassing time this past weekend when a large group entered the nighterie and asked the band to play the Twist. The band couldn't deliver with the music!
