Youth Center Vandalism Inspected by Commission

Extensive vandalism at the War Memorial Youth Center was inspected by the Coral Gables City Commission Monday - part of a tour of City facilities. Other damage reported by the members of the association in a recent meeting with the Commission was also observed by the Commission. Theft of equipment was also involved. Damage included holes punched through ceilings, servicemen's nameplates removed from a memorial plaque, bent ornamental metal work throughout the building, damage lockers and miscellaneous vandalism. The damage prompted Mayor Robert L. Searle to remark that if a way can be found to break something, some boy will do it. Commissioners conferred with Youth Center Director Jeannette Hunt about the damage with an eye to repair and possibility adopting new procedures for reporting and repair.
