Bernice Simonsen Marries Harry Burke, Oregonian
MRS. HARRY BURKE The Granada Presbyterian Church of Coral Gables was the setting Saturday for the afternoon wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Darrell Burke. The reception took place in the church patio. It was the first wedding in the new church. The bride, the former Miss E[?]ice Hedvig Simonsen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Simonsen, 5050 SW 60th Pl. The groom is the son of Earl E. Burke of Portland, Ore., and the late Mrs. Burke. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a wedding gown of white silk mist and Alencon lace, fashioned with fitted bodice etched in pearls, and bracelet-length sleeves. [T]he bell-shaped skirt, with garlands of lace, touched the floor in front and fell to a chapel train in back. Her illusion veil was held in place with a half circlet of the lace and her flowers were white orchids, gold Christmas balls and white carnations. Mrs. Toby Prince Brigham was matron of honor and Miss P[?]ie Ann Benn was bridesmaid. They wore identical gowns of gold satin designed with scoop necklines and bell-shaped skirts. A Christmas touch was added to their bouquets, cascades of red carnations with gold ribbons and gold Christmas balls. Jack D. Burke of Glendora, C[?], was best man. Ushers were John P. Simonsen, brother of the bride; Tony P. Brig[?]am and Robert J. Godbey. Dr. Frank A. Mathes, pastor at Granada, and Dr. Douglas Johnston of Sylvania Heights Baptist Church officiated at the 4 p.m. ceremony. Assisting at the reception, the bride's mother wore a powder blue Chantilly-type lace go[?] and a corsage of Vanda orchids. After a wedding trip to Miami Beach and Acapulco, the couple will live in Mexico City, where the groom is working with the Union Evangelical Church. Both the bride and groom are members of the Wycliffe Bible Translators. The bride is a graduate of the University of Miami and St. Luke's School of [?]rsing, New York City. The groom is a graduate of Stanford University and the Fuller Theological Seminary of Pasadena, Calif.
