'God Has Richly Blessed Us'

Christ the King Lutheran Church, a Florida Synod mission congregation holding services at Howard Drive School, 136th Street at 77th Avenue, will be "born" on Christmas Eve. During the charter ceremonies held at the morning services last Sunday, the pastor, the Rev. Carsten Ludder pointed out that Christmas Eve was chosen for the "birth" of the church as it corresponds with the probably time of the birth of Christ during the early hours of Dec. 25 in Bethlehem, almost 20 centuries ago. The 8 p.m. Christmas Eve official founding of the new church (3 a.m. Bethlehem time) will be a candelight service with special Christmas music by the choir of 23 voices. Since the first service of Christ the King Lutheran Church on Oct. 1, 1961, the weekly attendance has increased from three hundred to 410 adults and children. The Sunday School has grown from 82 to 150 members. "Based on increasing numbers of visitors and the enthusiasm of the charter members of the congregation," Pastor Ludder said, "I predict that our church will be a 'going' congregation of well over 200 members on Christmas Eve. "We will, shortly, be breaking ground for the new church at one of a number of locations we have under consideration. God has richly blessed us with the progress we have made thus far."

Rockway Book Collection Good

National Education Week Book Drive at Rockway Junior High School resulted in a generous response to the call for book funds. School librarian and sponsor of the drive, Miss Barbara Bailey, said the results exceeded her expectations. Each home room picked a book from a list of possible titles and worked toward raising the money for it. In addition the library assistants contributed towards the drive. The newly purchased books are now in circulation.
