His Sign Language Ends With Some Plain Talk From Doctors

A chiropractor who specializes in deformities of the upper spine claims that a group of medical doctors next to his Bird Road office give him a pain in the neck. Dr. Melvin P. Deutsch, whose office is at 9601 Bird Rd., suspects it was more than mere coincidence that resulted in his $1,250 sign being obscured completely on one side. Not so, said Dr. Dwight B. Burley, who practices medicine at 9621 Bird Rd. with Dr. Harold E. Register and Dr. Ray Mummery. "I don't understand what it's all about" said Dr. Burley. He said he planned to landscape the clinic as far back as 1957 and the work has just been completed. "It's just unfortunate timing," said Dr. Burley. But Dr. Deutsch didn't see it that way. The last of the 35 to 40 malaleucas — three especially large and bushy ones — were placed in front of the sign after the others had been planted, he said. This wasn't so hard to explain for Dr. Burley. He just placed his best trees out front, he said. Dr. Deutsch, just out of chiropractic school, says he needs the sign because his office is not on the highway. The doctors don't know from nothing. And there the matter stands.
