Holmes Braddock Seeks Post on School Board
Holmes Braddock, a general agent for an insurance company and University of Miami, has announced for the Dade County School Board, District 3. Braddock, a 16-year resident of Dade County, is 36 and a native of Forsyth, Ga. who has lived in Florida all but a few years. "I am greatly concerned by the tremendous work load that is piled on our teachers, which restricts their teaching time," said Braddock. "I would very much like to see some sort of teacher aid program developed to relieve the teachers of their non-teaching activities," he said. Braddock, who once travelled about the country counseling prospective UM students, said he is eager to continue to improve the school athletic program. "I want to see us continue to develop a strong, competitive, interscholastic athletic program that covers all sports compatible with our climate and locale and which will be second to none in the world," Braddock said. "This in addition to a comprehensive program along the lines of general physical fitness of all students." The candidate also favors expansion of the vocational educational program. Braddock, who grew up in Sebastian, is married to Ruth Fenner Braddock. They live at 7801 SW 134th St. and have four children. He has a master's degree from UM and served in the U.S. Army Medical Department between 1944 and 1946. Braddock is active in a host of civic organizations too numerous to list here. He is a Sunday School teacher and immediate past president at Kendall Methodist Church.
