A KISS FOR DAD is in order as Barbara Burney, just chosen a Princess in the Junior Orange Bowl Queen contest, happily obliges George Burney. Moments after the selection was made and Barbara's name announced, a beaming father ascended the stairs to the stage to congratulate his daughter. Yes sir, father does know best, that is when he has a daughter like Barbara.

Brown-Haired, Brown-Eyed Girl. Is Crowned Orange Bowl Queen

By EDWIN KNIGHT Robin Lee Krug, a brown-haired, brown-eyed beauty who loves animals and winning queen contests, was named the ninth annual Junior Orange Bowl Queen Saturday afternoon at Coral Gables Youth Center. She was chosen from among 83 finalists and a total of 771 young misses who competed in earlier eliminations for the coveted title. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Krug, 19002 NW 7th Ct., and a student at Norland Junior High School. Wonderful Thing "This is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me," Robin said after being announced as winner. She immediately sobbed. Two princesses who will accompany Robin in all Junior Orange Bowl activities were chosen at the same time. They are Joan Bassett, 7605 SW 71st Ave., a South Miami Junior High School student, and Barbara Lynn Burney, 1354 SW 12th St., a student at Shenandoah Junior High School. Watching the round upon round of eliminations at the Youth Center Saturday afternoon were parents, friends of the contestants and eliminated competitors. Robin was crowned queen by last year's Miss Junior Orange Bowl, Jean Dunlap, daughter of Miami Postmaster Eugene Dunlap. Loves Pets The new queen (she and the princesses are just 13 years of age) wants to be a veterinarian. She has a dog and rabbit and longs for more pets. The girls were chosen according to personality, poise and general apearance as they walked across the youth center stage. Those wearing high heels and makeup were promptly eliminated. The judges, known only to Youth Center officials prior to the judging, included Byron Nelson, of University Federal Savings and Loan Association; Mrs. Owen Bowser, a Coral Gables housewife; John Partin, of Southern Bell Telephone Co.; Eleanor Gumby, of Jordon Marsh, and Nancy Brown, of Coronet Charm School. With the judging of the queen and her court, the nation's largest youth festival, the Junior Orange Bowl Pageant, gets under way. The festivities will include a pint-size football game, the largest all-youth parade in the country, a service-to-youth banquet at Coral Gables Country Club and an invitation-only queen's ball at the youth center. Football Game Next on the schedule of events for the still-happy queen and her court will be the Junior Orange Bowl football game which will be played at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Coral Gables Stadium, Coral Way at SW 74th Ave. Playing in the game will be the 115 lb. champions of the Inter-City Athletic Conference and the winner in the Ft. Lauderdale Boys Athletic League. The next day, Thursday, Dec. 29, is the big one for the qin. She will be the big attraction in what is slated to be the city's biggest parade. Prior to the parade will be the service-to-youth luncheon. That evening will be the queen's ball. Parade At 2 The parade will step off at 2 p.m. and wind its way sh along Ponce de Leon Blvd. to Miarcle Mile, west on Miracle Mile to Biltmore Way and southwest on Biltmore Way to a disbanding point. Some 100,000 children and parents are expected to line the parade route to cheer numerous bands and scores of marching youngsters. The queen and her court will appear in the giant King Orange Jamboree parade on New Year's Eve in downtown Miami.

Little Flower Church Children Greet Santa

A visit from Santa Claus, a stocking filled with candy and toys, Christmas carols and laughter rounded out the second annual Christmas party for preschool children at the Church of the Little Flower. The party, which was held in the church cafeteria, was sponsored by the Little Flower Junior Women's Club. The center of attraction, besides Santa, was a 7-foot Christmas tree decorated with homemade Santa Clauses, gumdrops and cookie-shaped figures. The decorations were made by president and party chairman, Mrs. R. P. Derseweh, and ways and means chairman, Mrs. Louis Caputa. The Little Flower Junior Women operate a nursery for the church each Sunday during the 9 and 10 a.m. Masses, which is open for the use of each parish member.
