IT WAS FAMILY NIGHT at the Coral Gables Country Club when members turned out for the Fashion Show Dinner held Tuesday night. Among the guests were the Jack Joneses and their children. Next to the banister are Michael, Janis and Marsha. The other children are Oliver, Nancy and Jack, Jr.

Veterans Group Re-elects Officers
Charles Burns Barracks 1280, Veterans of World War I, USA, of Coral Gables( recently re-elected all officers for the coming year. They are, Morris Golombeck, commander; Robert Burns, senior vice commander; Louis Tollin, junior vice commander; Henry Villwock, quartermaster; Philip Cantor, judge advocate; Morris Rutkin, chaplain; Joseph Landazi, seargeant-at-arms; Joseph Mahler, William Maher, George Smith, trustees; Solly Wildstein, adjutant; Julius Machenburg, welfare chairman. The Barracks regrets to announce the loss by death of two of its members in the past month, Robert J. Wilhelm and Joseph Walden. Both of these members were buried with full military honors. Plans are now being made to enlist as many of residents of Coral Gables and the Southwest section of Miami who are not now affiliated. Efforts are being made through the National Office of the Veterans of World War I, and supported by each of the local Barracks throughout the nation, to get before the coming Congress, legislation for the benefit of these veterans of 1917-18. Meetings of the Barracks are held on the second and fourth Fridays of each month in the recreation hall of the Coral Gables Federal Savings and Loan Association, 2501 Ponce de Leon Blvd. Meetings start at 8 p.m. The Ladies Auxiliary meets at the same time and place. If you are the wife, mother, daughter or sister of a World War I veteran you are eligible to join. For further information, call Quartermaster Villwock at MO 6-0468 or Mrs. Louis Tollin at HI 8-7538.
Music For Retired Teachers
The "Sunrisers" and Concert Chorus of South Miami Junior High School, under the direction of Mrs. John R. Mertz, presented a program of Christmas music for the Retired Teachers Group of the Dade County Public Schools Saturday, Dec. 17. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Frances Wynn in Snapper Creek Estates.

Southwest Teacher Appears On Television
By LAURA HENRY Miss Agnes Jane Bassett of the Southwest High School Girl's Physical Education Department has recently become a television celebrity. Miss Bassett is captain-manager of a volleyball team, consisting largely of Dade County P. E. teachers, which won the state championship at Tallahassee and was pre-sented with a large trophy. Miss Bassett appeared on Channel 10 on the 11 o'clock news broadcast where she was interviewed by Jack Berry. Cagers Open Season The Southwest High School cagers opened their season Dec. 20 against St. Patrick's High School. With more height than ever, the Eagles are looking forward to a good season. The starting lineup consisted of Ken Schwartz and Mike Kirkland as guards, Mike Waxman and George Doherty as forwards, and Dan Doherty as center. Returning lettermen to boost the squad are Mike Waxman, Ken Schwartz and Wayne Wever. Southwest poets are continuing to receive recognition for their work. Elizabeth Kraemer has been notified that her poem "Silence," which appeared in the National High School Poetry Anthology in 1960, has been selected for publication in "Songs Of Youth." This is a compilation of the finest poetry which appeared in the 25 regional anthologies representing every state. Her poem was chosen from about 10,000 poems. Vice Consul Of Israel The Vice Consul of Israel, Uri M. Gordon, spoke to the second period history classes of Mrs. Frances Weintraub, Mr. Jesse Wilson and Mr. Frank Guiner on American-Israel relations. He highlighted the similarity of civilization and central government, school government, democracy, educational programs and economic independence. Saturday evening, Dec. 17, Southwest held its annual Christmas formal in the school cafeteria from 8-11 p.m. The dance was sponsored by the orchestra.
