Modernage President Wins Trip To Europe

Martin H. Feinman and F. W. Inklebarger, Modernage, 7255 NE 4th Ave., have been judged first prize winners in the "Abroad At Home" contests for dealers and salesmen sponsored by the Premier Division, Broyhill Furniture Factories, Lenoir, N. C. Feinman is the recipient of an expenses-paid 14 day trip for two to Paris, and Inklebarger, a $500 U. S. Government savings bond. The Feinmans will fly from New York aboard an Air France Boeing 707 Jet. All expenses for the trip will be taken care of by Broyhill. While in Paris, Feinman will have first class hotel accommodations, dine in famous restaurants, visit and see all of the points of historical and cultural interest for which the City of Ligt is so well known. The dealer and salesman contests which Feinman and Inklebarger have won were parts of the six-weeks long "Aboard At Home" promotion for Broyhill Premier's "Saga," "Trianon" and "Invitation Classic" collections of correlated living dining and bedroom furniture. More than 1200 Broyhill Premier furniture dealers participated in "Abroad At Home" during the promotion period Aug. 1 to Sept. 15.

TICKETS TO EUROPE are handed to Martin H. Feinman, center, president of Modernage Furniture Co., by Harry Dews, Southeastern area sales manager for Broyhill Furniture, sponsor of the contest. At right is Bill Barber, area representative for Broyhill. Feinman won the all-expense trip for winning the "Abroad At Home" contest for dealers and salesmen.

Permits Are Granted For Two Apartments

Permits have been issued for construction of two apartment buildings in Coral Gables. One, an 11-unit structure, will be constructed at 2150 Douglas Rd. by R. E. Couture for $61,000. The two-story CBS building was designed by Randolph F. Ware. Robert W. Bennett Jr., owner of the second six-unit apartment, costing $33,000, plans the building at 414 Valencia. H. L. Keck was the architect for the two-story building.

City To Buy Mowers

Two mowers, one seven-unit gang type and a 76-inch type, were authorized to be purchased by the Coral Gables City Commission last week for use at the Biltmore Golf Course. The two items, which had been included in the budget, cost $3487.

We're Becoming Oil Capital Gulf Oil Division Moves To Coral Gables

Gulf Oil Company's New York Exploration Division is moving to Coral Gables as a result of efforts of the City Commission and former commissioner Ed Rogers. The new oil company exploration headquarters will be located in the former Post Office building on Giralda, now in the process of being enlarged and redesigned. Gulf's operations will begin between March 15 and April 15, Rogers said. "It's going to help to develop Coral Gables that much more," said Rogers. "I think it's real important to get companies like that here." Esso Moved Here Esso recently transferred its operations from Cuba to Coral Gables and International Petroleum established a world wide operation here a few years ago. Coral Gables is thereby becoming some sort of "oil capital" for the Western Hemisphere. "They're finding everything convenient," Rogers said, pointing to the proximity to Miami International Airport, other transportation and the convenience of downtown Coral Gables shopping. "They like the city," Rogers said of Gulf, which recently established a sales headquarters in Fort Lauderdale. Rogers said the rebuilt building will have two-stories, provide employment for between 60 and 75 persons and occupy 12,500 square feet of floor space. Parking will be in back of the building. Facilities will include a laboratory to test samples flown in from all parts of the Caribbean, Central and South America. The remodeled building was designed by Coral Gables architect Edward T. Rempe. Rogers purchased the building, vacant for two years after the Post Office moved out, from Roy Page. The Keyes Co. handled the lease agreement between Rogers and Gulf.

They Helped Bring Santa

Santa Claus came to Coral Gables in a big way recently. Abandoning the usual sleigh for a helicopter, he landed at City Hall and was welcomed by almost 200 children. Also on hand to add the proper atmosphere were Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and Jerry Veri and his Veritones. Responsible for bringing the beloved symbol of Christmas to Coral Gables were Dan Ferber, of Loffler Brothers Oyster House, and Fran Beecher of Pygmalion. Working as a committee for the Retail Merchants Division of the Chamber of Commerce, the two business people have arranged for Santa to see and be seen by many Gables residents. Until Dec. 23 from 7 to 9 each night, Santa will travel through the Coral Gables business district on a lighted float. Monday through Saturday, from 1-2 p.m., he will visit with children at Alhambra Circle and Ponce de Leon and will appear in the park in the 200 block of Miracle Mile from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
