Club To Hear Dr. Foster As Guest Artist

Dr. Bertha Foster, dean emeritus of the University of Miami's School of Music and founder of the Musicians Club of America of Coral Gables, will be the guest artist at today's 2 p.m. meeting of the Woman's Club of Coconut Grove. Theme of the program will be "Keep the fires of freedom burning by relieving our tensions with song and beauty." Dr. Foster will present one of her famous piano musicals for which she is locally famous. Her friends are invited to attend. Mrs. Herbert Eayrs, president, will receive guests. Mrs. L. W. Larson is tea chairman. The club ended its annual art show week with a tea Sunday. The work of McKiggon Brown entitled the "Birds of the Everglades" was shown.

State President To Address Club Law Group

Mrs. Allen H. Dawson, president of the Florida Association of Parliamentarians, will be a speaker Monday, when the Miami Parliamentary Law Unit holds its annual meeting at the home of Mrs. William B. Buchanan in Miami. Mrs. J. Bailey Whitney, 3793 SW 26th Ter., a past state president and presently corresponding secretary of the National Association, will also speak. Mrs. Herberta Leonardy of Coral Gables, president of the National Association will install the new officers of the Miami Law unit, which includes several from Coral Gables. They are Mrs. Wheeler S. Scribner, president; Mrs. Raymond N. Jenkins, first, and Mrs. S. A. Delany, second, vice presidents; Mrs. William B. Buchanan, recording, and Mrs. J. Forrest Diehl, corresponding, secretaries; Mrs. Charles A. Mills, treasurer, and Mrs. Leonard Shear, retiring president, parliamentarian.

Club Tuned To Brahms Review

Edward Clarke, lecturer in esthetics, University of Miami's School of Music, will review "Johannas Brahms" by Albert Nieman at the 10:30 a.m. meeting today of the South Miami Music Club. The meeting will take place at the University Christian Church, regular meeting place for this music club. Mrs. Eleanor Morgan is program chairman. Carol Tait, soprano and one of the club's choral singers, will present a group of Brahms' lieder. Mrs. C. F. Brand, president, will preside. Mrs. William V. Taylor, hostess chairman, and her committee will serve refreshments.

THE SELECTION OF NESTA KING, 9-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. King, 10355 SW 35th St., as the 1961 poster girl for the Dade County National Foundation's March of Dimes, has been announced by Roy M. Abagnale, director of the campaign. Nesta was born in Selma, Ala., Sept. 26, 1951, and moved to Miami with her parents when she was 3. She was stricken with polio in May 1959. She attended Olympia Heights School where she is now in the fourth grade.

12,000 Women Join March On Polio

Some 12,000 women will participate in the annual Mother's March of Dimes in Dade County on Tuesday evening Jan. 24, Mrs. Herbert A. Kuvin of Key Biscayne has announced. Mrs. Kuvin is the Mother's March Chairman. Of the 24 area chairmen who have been appointed, six are assigned to the Southwest section. They are: South Central, Mrs. William Daddona, 1200 SW 30th Ave.; Coral Gables, Mrs. Douglas Hazen, 1035 Cotorro; South Miami, Mrs. W. B. Findley, 7636 SW 59th Ct.; West South Dade, Mrs. Frank H. King, 10355 SW 35th St.; Kendall, Mrs. F. J. Smith, 6880 SW 101st St.; Cutler Ridge-Perrine, Mrs. John B. Tarver, 9460 Montego Bay Dr. In conjunction with the Mother's March, nine Junior Chamber of Commerce clubs of Dade County will conduct Mile of Dimes collections at 15 different locations in the county on Saturday, Jan. 21. Jaycee Clubs collecting in this area are: Coral Gables, Miracle Mile and LeJeune and Miracle Mile and Ponce de Leon.; South Miami, U. S. Highway 1, Sunset Blvd. and Red Road; West Dade, Bird Road and 57th Ave. and Tamiami Trail and 57th Ave. Each location will attempt to collect a mile of dimes, about $7500.

Pen Women Will View Art

An Art appreciation lecture entitled "The What-The Why-The How of Painting" will be presented by Mrs. Margaret Mason as the program of the January luncheon of the Coral Gables Branch of the National League of American Pen Women. The event, which will take place at the Riviera Country Club on Jan. 24, will be highlighted by a showing of paintings done by the speaker during her European travels last summer. Mrs. Wirt Peters, president, will preside.

Theatre Arts League Meeting

Members of the Theater Arts League will hold their first meeting of the new year, a board session at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the El Centro Club, McAllister Hotel. Mrs. Walter M. Pierce, president, will preside Wednesday and also at the regular meeting of all members to be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at the Coconut Grove Theater.

Parliamentarians

Mrs. C. M. Ballard, 731 Minorca Ave., will be the hostess tomorrow for the 10 a.m. meeting of the Esther Munson Unit, National Association of Parliamentarians. Mrs. Leonard Shears will present the lesson.

UM Cancer Unit Horse Show To Begin Soon

The 11th annual Miami Charity Horse Show sponsored by the Woman's Cancer Association of the University of Miami and the Florida Horse Shows Association will open Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Dinner Key Auditorium. It will continue nightly through Sunday, Jan. 29. Proceeds from the sale of tickets will benefit the cancer research of the University's School of Medicine. On each of the five nights, the Golden Horseshoe box at $10 a person will have local hosts. They are Mr. and Mrs. Claude Pepper, Jan 25; Mr. and Mrs. Walter M. Pierce and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ravlin, Jan. 26; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hoskins, Jan. 27; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bosworth, Mr. and Mrs. John McCoy and Mr. and Mrs. George Storer Jr., Jan. 28; Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Jones, and Dr. and Mrs. Franz Stewart, Jan. 29. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Foard and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hooper are honorary hosts. Champagne will be served and orchids will be presented to the ladies.

Legion Auxiliary Invites Public

Mrs. Rose Cayaves, president of the American Legion Auxiliary of Coral Gables, Unit 98, extends an invitation to the public to attend the 8 p.m. meeting Wednesday at the American Legion Hall, 300 Alhambra Cir. James Batal, lecturer and writer, will be the speaker. He has selected as his topic, The Near East. Mr. Batal, has had many years experience in Palestine, Syria and Iraq on a special mission of the U. S. government. Mrs. May Malone is chairman. Refreshments will be served. Members may bring a guest.

Cellist To Entertain Musicians Club

Bernice Schwartz, cellist, will be the artist Sunday when the Musicians Club of America holds its regular 4 p.m. musicale in the club's Dixie Room. The artist will be accompanied by Marten Godwin. Miss Schwartz will present four numbers, including, Adagio by Corelli-Schuster, Divertimento in D Major by Haydn-Piatigorsky; Nocturne in C Minor by Chopin - Piatigorsky and Concerto in Fourt Parts by Saint Saens.
