South Miami Jaycees Honor Baptist Minister

Max Morris, pastor of South Miami Baptist Church, was awarded the South Miami Jaycees Distinguished Service Award Saturday night for his outstanding leadership qualities in his field. | Presentation was made at a Jaycee dinner meeting at Palmetto Country Club. | Chosen from a number of nominees for the award, Reverend Morris was chosen for his contribution to the community, his evidence of leadership ability and his evidence of success in his field. | 200 Attended | About 200 attended the dinner meeting, one of the outstanding yearly Jaycee events. | Last year's award recipient was South Miami Recreation Director Charlie Skalaski. | In presenting the award, the Jaycees said, "Since establishing residence in South Miami last year and assuming the pastorate of his church, the membership has increased by over 300 members and now ranks as one of the most important pulpits in the state." | "... his leadership exists outside of his church as well and is exemplified by the following; member, Citizens Advisory Council, South Miami Hospital; member, Board of Trustees, The Baptist Hospital; member, Administrative Committee, The Baptist Hospital; chairman, Evangelistic Committee, Miami Baptist Association and chairman, Youth Camp, Miami Baptist Association. | Crusader Against Reds | In addition, Reverend Morris is recognized as a crusader against Communism. He has made several trips behind the Iron Curtain to see for himself the existence under Communism. Armed with this knowledge and his ability as a speaker, he has spoken before numerous civic and church groups in explaining Communism. | Married and the father of two children, he is an honorary member of South Miami Jaycees, Fact Finders and the Christian Anti - Communist League.
New Life Meetings Begin January 29
"New Life Meeting" will be held at Kendall Methodist Church, 77th Ave. at SW 104th St., beginning Jan. 29 through Feb. 3, at 7:30 each evening. | The Rev. Wesley Engstrom, pastor of the Evangelical Free Church, Satellite Beach, Fla., will be speaker. Reverend Engstrom is a graduate of University of Nebraska and Trinity Theological Seminary of Chicago. He has served as assistant chaplain at the Nebraska State Penitentiary and later served as director of Youth and Music at a church in Evanston, Ill. | In 1958 Reverend Engstrom became the first pastor of the Evangelical Free Church of Satelli Beach. Under the leadership of this young pastor, this church, which is located in the Cape Canaveral missile area, has grown from 30 to over 150 in just two years. As a minister near Cape Canaveral, he has for the motto of his ministry and his church, "Serving the God of Grace at the Gateway to Space." | Pastor Engstrom's message will be warm, practical and Christ centered. As a preacher, he strives to apply Jesus Christ and the Word of God to the everyday needs and problems of his listeners. There will be congregational singing and special music each evening. | The public is invited.
Robert Glazer Is Bar Mitzvah
Services at Temple Zion will start at 8:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 27. Rabbi Alfred Waxman will deliver the sermon, "The Book and the Film'.' | On Saturday at 9:30 a.m., Jan. 28, Robert, son of Mrs. Luba Glazer, will be Bar Mitzvah. He is a student at Kinloch Park Junior High School. | Arriving from New Jersey for the Bar Mitzvah will be Mr. and Mrs. Jack Aront and family and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Aront and family. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Galant will also be here from Chicago. | The Kiddush will be tendered by Robert's mother. The congregation and friends are invited.

If you didn't see "Demetrius and the Gladiators" with Victor Mature and Susan Hayward in the theatre or on T.V.'s late, late show, you can now see it at church. | There'll be a showing at 7:15 p.m., Jan. 28 and 29, at Palmetto Presbyterian Church, 6790 SW 56th St. | There is no admission charge, but donations will be accepted. A nursery will be provided and refreshments served. | The film, in color and cinemascope, deals with the efforts of Demetrius, forced to become a gladiator, to remain a Christian in an era when that religion spelled death for its believers.

Mrs. Roosevelt To Speak At Temple Beth Am
Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, one of the world's most beloved personalities, will be guest of honor at the annual Temple Beth Am Israel Bond Dinner on Sunday evening, Feb. 19, in the Temple, 5950 North Kendall Dr., South Miami. | In recognition of her many years of devotion to humanitarian causes and her inspiring support of the State of Israel, Mrs. Roosevelt will be presented with a special Israel Bar Mitzvah Award.
